Here in Middletown, The Buttonwood Tree hosts the Middlesex Drum Circle on Thursday, and on Friday you can enjoy jazz with the Matt Dwonszyk Trio. The Middletown Arts & Culture Office brings you Shy, Glambat, and Snowpiler on Saturday for a Triple Record Release. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Amazing Grace,” an Aretha Franklin documentary with a never-before-seen performance of the anthem from 1972, and “Little Woods,” a drama about two women in a small Western town. They also continue “Iyengar: The Man, Yoga and the Student’s Journey,” until Thursday. On Friday they open “The Serengeti Rules,” a nature documentary about how to heal ecosystems, and “Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blanché,” a documentary about the first female filmmaker. At Trinity College’s Cinestudio tonight they open “The Mustang,” about a convict working in a wild horse-training program. Sunday’s Bolshoi Ballet matinée features two pieces, “Carmen,” and “Petrushka,” and in the evening they’re screening “War and Peace, Part 1,” a 1965 Russian production of the Tolstoy’s classic. From midnight-1am, catch (2, 4) Butter Fingers with Sam. Dropping funky tunes, one groovy slip at a time.

From 2-3am, tune in for (2, 4) WTF! (What the Funk) with DJ Jagged Little Thrill and DJ Amoroso, Exploring George Clinton’s concept of “the Funk,” as it appears across genres and generations.
From 3-4am, it’s The Hour of Slack. Reverend Ivan Stang presents his own commentary, along with recorded material from all SubGenius radio and stage shows, bands, ranters, media barrage collage artists, and selections from the indie audio underground created by various SubGenii and others
And finally, rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World Report offering International news coverage and we kick off each weekday at 5am with Morning Editionfrom NPR.
