Now, here’s a rundown of some of what’s scheduled in the community this weekend.

Here in Middletown tonight, The Buttonwood Tree presents an evening of jazz with The Sean Clapis Trio featuring Noah Baerman and Henry Lugo. On Saturday mornings, The Buttonwood offers a series of wellness activities from Qigong (Chee Kung) and yoga, to self-empowerment workshops. Saturday night, The Buttonwood Tree "Songwriter Sessions" features Lara Herscovitch, Phil Henry & Gary Moon.
Sunday out in front of The Buttonwood Food Not Bombs shares food beginning at 1 pm. All are welcome to enjoy a meal and help prepare them beforehand at the First Church on 190 Court Street at 11:30 am. Tonight at Cafe Nine in New Haven, Johnny Nicholas & Hell Bent come in for a night of solid blues. The weekly Saturday Afternoon Jazz Jam is hosted by The Nick DiMaria Quartet this week. Then, The Defibulators, Rusty Things, and Proud Flesh take the stage for a night of roots music at The Nine. At Real Art Ways in Hartford, Saturday and Sunday Violeta Went to Heaven, a portrait of  the influential figure in world music and a complex icon of Chilean history, is showing. Cinestudio, Trinity College's cinema in Hartford, presents "Becoming Traviata" -witness the efforts of opera director Jean-François Sivadier and coloratura soprano Natalie Dessay to communicate the raw emotion of Verdi’s La Traviata to a modern audience. The Middletown Symphonic Band will be performing an outdoor concert tonight at Pierson Park in Cromwell beginning at 7. This is The Jive at Five – our daily community calendar and rundown of night-time programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown, your station for NPR, Pacifica, independent and local public affairs by day and the best in free-form community programming week nights and weekends. Here in Middletown, on Wednesday night, at The Buttonwood Tree, brings a night of Karaoke for all ages.   Friday night, The Buttonwood Tree presents an evening of Jazz with The Sean Clapis Trio featuring Noah Baerman and Henry Lugo. 

On Saturday mornings, The Buttonwood offers a series of wellness activities from Qigong (sounds like > Chi gung) and yoga, to Self empowerment workshops. Saturday night, The Buttonwood Tree "Songwriter Sessions" featuring Lara Herscovitch, Phil Henry & Gary Moon.
Sunday, is a busy day The Buttonwood starting with a worship service at 10am. Then, Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood each Sunday. All are welcome to enjoy a meal and help prepare them beforehand at the First Church on 190 Court Street at 11:30 am.

The Middletown Symphonic Band will be performing an outdoor concert on Wednesday, June 26, at Pierson Park in Cromwell beginning at 7 PM. At Real Art Ways in Hartford, through Thursday you can catch, The Source Family, about a secretive and outlandish commune in Los Angeles in the 1970’s.  Also showing through Thursday at Real Art Ways is: Violeta Went to Heaven, a portrait of  the influential figure in world music and a complex icon of Chilean history. Friday, Real Art Ways begins a run of Hannah Arendt,  a  new biopic of the influential German-Jewish philosopher and political theorist. realartways.org for details.

Tonight, Ci-ne-studio, Trinity College's cinema in Hartford, presents Augustine, a film that examines the real-life story of Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, a renowned 19th-century neurologist and a teacher of Freud, and Charcot’s patient Augustine, a 19-year-old kitchen maid. Also tonight (June 25), Cinestudio kicks off a run of "Becoming Traviat"a a thrilling witness to the efforts of opera director Jean-François Sivadier and exceptional coloratura soprano Natalie Dessay .
