Monday 05-27-19 Jive


Good evening, it's Monday, May 27th, 2019. Happy Memorial Day! This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

While we’re skipping our community calendar today in light of the holiday,   We do want to make sure you know that tonight marks the start of our Summer Program season here at WESU.


Here’s the rundown of our Monday night line up for the summer.

Right after the jive, it’s Afternoon Jazz with Charles Henry. From classic bop to important new releases.

From 6-8pm, stay tuned for 2 hours of  75% Folk with Michael Benson offering a mix of contemporary folk, blues, jazz and acoustic music, along with occasional live interviews.



From 809:30 Chip Austin brings you (2,4) Unfocused Folk. Americana music from Nashville and around the world including Folk, acoustic Country and roots-Rock from both emerging and veteran artists.



After Unfocused Folk, catch Cruiser’s Radio Program with Jack Sullivan until 11pm. Music from the 1950s & 1960's as well as LIVE requests, TV Trivia, and lot of fun.

From 11-12:30am, it’s Hits of the 60s and 70s with Jimmy Z, playing billboard hot 100 hits of the 60's and 70's. Win a WESU beverage mug on our weekly "Name That Tune" contest.



From 12:30-1:30am (Matt the Cat keeps the oldies spotlight going on Juke in the Back from Pacifica

Nest up at 1:30 each week Nutmeg Junction offers a new originally scripted audio theater program celebrating the golden age of radio.

at 2 am Roots World with Cliff Furnald takes you on a tour across borders and genres, introducing you to music from far flung places and sometimes from right in your own backyard.

from 3-4 am stay tuned for a rebroadcast of the days noontime episode of Democracy Now! from Pacifica,
Bringing listeners access to people and perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. media, including journalists, grassroots leaders, activists, artists, academics and ordinary people from around the world.

Finally, rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World Report offering International news coverage and we kick off each weekday at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.



As we work to raise the listener support needed to close out our spring pledge drive and keep WESU on air, we ask that you reflect on how WESU has contributed to the quality of your life. Does the service we provide keep you informed, entertained, or perhaps even enlightened? Do we bring you content you cannot elsewhere? As a community radio station, these are our goals and we are glad to have your ear. WESU depends on listener support from folks like you to keep the station going.
