At the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, there's an Acoustic Open Mic with Bob Gotta Thursday evening. The Hearing Voices Network appears Friday afternoon, and that evening, the Story City Troupe takes on the theme, “An Ah-Ha Moment.” Eliot Lewis, independent artist and multi-instrumentalist, takes the stage on Saturday. www.buttonwood.org

In New Haven, at Café Nine, Words & Music performs this evening/Wednesday, and on Thursday they headline L & E: The Duo and Ab-Sidian. Saturday’s Jazz Jam session is with Mike Coppola and Friends, followed by Tal National and Southwind Social Club that night. The Bushnell Park Beer Garden is open Friday and The Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival will be held Saturday with food, music, and more at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza. Hartford’s Real Art Ways is still running “Pavarotti,” a documentary about the Voice, the Man, the Legend, and “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am,” a documentary about the iconic author. Also continuing is “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” an ode to friendship and family, and "Rojo,” an Argentinian crime thriller. On Thursday, they have a one-day screening of "Eye on Video: 2019 Film Showcase," a presentation of the work of 15 high schoolers from the Greater Hartford area who created original short films in just six weeks. Friday's Jive

Good evening, it's Friday, July 26th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. I'm Maria Johnson, producer and host of Reasonably Catholic: Keeping the Faith, which airs every first, third and fifth Tuesday, from 4 to right before the Jive at Five. This Tuesday, two interviews with people who made a significant spiritual change in adulthood. The first is with Mike Thomas, who converted to Catholicism from Judaism and who is so committed to his new faith that he leads his chapter of a Catholic fraternal organization called the Catenians. Then the next interview is with the Richard DeBiasi, now a Christian minister. An Italian-American, he was raised Catholic but  now practices as a Messianic Jew; that is, a Jew who believes in Jesus. Both have interesting stories to tell. If you miss any of the episode or want to share it with friends, I’ll post it later tonight at reasonablycatholic.com.

Hartford’s Real Art Ways is still running “Pavarotti,” a documentary about the Voice, the Man, the Legend, and “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am,” a documentary about the iconic author. Also continuing is “The Other Story,” an Israeli film about family and secular/religious conflict, and “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” an ode to friendship and family. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues “The Dead Don’t Die,” a comic horror about three bumbling cops hunting zombies in Pennsylvania, through Thursday.
