At 5:30 today, The Russell Library in Middletown, hosts a
community presentation on Thursday by Dr. Ruth Potee on Adolescent Substance
Abuse and the Developing Brain. There are more Teen Volunteer Orientations on
Saturday, and in the afternoon you can enjoy the next session of their Jazz Up
Close series with vibraphonist and composer Joe Locke and his trio. Check the

In New Haven, Café Nine tonight/Thursday Tav Falco’s Panther
Burns, appearing with Killer Kin. Friday, Cafe Nine’s weekly 5pm Happy Hour set

The Nine you can catch Mighty Tortuga, Carbon Based, Jonas, and more. Their Saturday
afternoon weekly Jazz Jam session is with Mike Coppola and Friends. Saturday night

comes your way on Thursday nights with special guests. You can catch Soul

At The State House in New Haven, tonight, KITKA, a Swedish
electronic pop duo, make their Elm City debut, performing with T-Wreck and
Underwear. Goodnight Moonshine and special guest Letitia VanSant take the State

afternoon, followed by Indie night with Ports of Spain, The Right Offs, and

Up in Hartford, the Hartford Underground sponsors Swing
Dance Thursday at the Polish National Home. Graveyard Shift Ghost Tours happen

The Middletown Arts & Culture Office announces that the
eighth annual Middletown Music Festival happens this Friday through Sunday,
co-sponsored by Middlesex Community College and taking place right on their
campus. Enjoy the music, along with craft beer tasting, vendors, food, and
more. The Recreation Division hosts a free Nature Walk and Scavenger Hunt for
families Saturday morning at Crystal Lake. On Saturday night, Slingshot Dakota,
Tier, and Perennial are at the MAC 650 Gallery & Artist Co-Op. The GM Chorale
brings its new concert, Alchemy: Come to the Music, to First Church in
Glastonbury on Saturday, and to the United Congregational Church in Tolland on

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in
Central Connecticut:
Through tomorrow night, Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues
“The Serengeti Rules,” a nature documentary about how to heal ecosystems, and
“Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blanché,” a film detailing the life
of the first female filmmaker. Also continuing through Friday, is “Walking on
Water,” a documentary about Christo’s latest art installation atop a lake in Italy.
Friday, Real Art Ways opens “The Biggest Little Farm,” a documentary about a
California couple’s restoration of a 200-acre farm. The 32nd Annual LGBTQ Film
Festival offering on Saturday is a selection of eight shorts about young people

At Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford the run of “War
and Peace, Part 2,” a 1965 Russian production of the Tolstoy’s classic. They
open the 32nd Annual CT LBGTQ Festival on Friday with “Tell It to the Bees,”

Up first it’s Grand Central Station with DJ Jenny Doll, inviting you to travel back in time to the 1940's and 1950's with a swinging upbeat show filled with big band, jazz, swing and rockabilly.
From 7-9 pm, The Universal Sound Wave with Sista Queen T., offers a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues. Plus health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips.
From 9:00-10pm board the Train to Skaville with Brian Tomsic who brings out the best hits of the ska era of popular Jamaican music, as well as highly sought after obscure releases.
From 10- Midnight, stay tuned for Mentaltown with The Ultimate Emcee El Vee, presenting 2 hrs of Local Unsigned Hip Hop artists.
From 12:000-3am, stay tuned for OVERDRIVE with Clarence and Shantay Scott. Praising God with a unique mix of urban contemporary, hip hop, and traditional gospel music.
Rounding out the evening and swinging into the morning from 3-5am it’s Louisiana Barn Dance from Pacifica.
