The Wesleyan Center for the Arts in Middletown hosts the 41st annual Navaratri Festival, a celebration of the music, dance, and artistry of India. Tonight is henna and chaat samplings, and music and dance at Crowell Hall. The festival winds up on Saturday with a Hindu ceremonial blessing ceremony and a final concert at Crowell Concert Hall. At Russell Library in Middletown, there’s Yoga in the Courtyard Saturday, and at 1 pm Sat. they host author/historian Marty Podskoch to discuss his new book, “Connecticut Civilian Conservation Corps Camps: Supervised by WWI Officers.” Don’t forget, it’s the final week to return overdue items with no penalty. New Haven’s Café Nine Friday Women In Song Happy Hour brings you Allison Farrell and CB Sheehan, followed later by a Puppet Cabaret with DJ Icebucket. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the afternoon run of Unleashed, about an unexpected encounter with transformed animals. The late afternoon movie, Logan Lucky, is about a heist and stock car racing. Opening this evening is School Life, a documentary about the only primary-age boarding school in Ireland. On Sunday at 7:30pm, in a one-time only event, it’s John Le Carré – An Evening with George Smiley, the proceeds of which benefit Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run of Detroit, a recreation of the 1967 Detroit riots. Sunday’s opens a one-week run of Dunkirk in 70 mm format, that focuses on the stories of resilience against overwhelming odds in the early stages of WWII. Right after the Jive At Five from 5:05 to 6:30pm, it'll be Wild Wild Live! with Babe and Beth expounding on that Wesleyan music scene.

And from 6:30-7pm catch the Middletown Youth Radio Project, a weekly radio program featuring the thoughts, voices, creativity and talent of the kids in the WESU neighborhood. 

At 7 until 8:30pm we have the Universal Sound Wave with Sista Queen T - offering a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues. Plus health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips.

Next up until 10pm, we take it From the Otherside with Rok-A-Dee where 60% of the show is love songs of different genre and the others Reggae Dancehall, R&B, and new artiste.    
                                                        
Then from 10 to 11:30pm it's Strickly Off the Head where DJ Cocomotion the Music Mixologist provides a live mixshow done on the fly or freestyle, with no pre-planned mixes or blends - R&B, old school, hip hop, rap and house.

Bridging the night to the morning hours, from 11:30pm to 12:30am you’ll have An A and a B with DJ N following the premise that every band has its hits - and a multitude of unknown, hidden gems. Songs played per band (70s-2000s rock) seek to highlight this dichotomy.

From 12:30pm until 3am Saturday we go into serious OVERDRIVE w/Clarence & Shantay Scott - offering the best urban contemporary, hip hop, and traditional gospel music on the planet!

From 3 until 5am you are taken to Wonderland with DJ Cheshire Cat, who has
a song in his heart, a chemical imbalance in his head and a musical library at his fingers. From krautrock to post-rock, grunge to garage, novelty to New Romantic, punk to prog, Wonderland has a place for it.

And we bring in the daylight from 5:00 to 6:00am with theBBC World News - a daily News roundup from the British Broadcasting Corporation, and Pacifica.

Staying on the other side of the big pond, from 6 to 7am it’sthe Celtic Café with Pat Laffan and Mark Gallagher presenting traditional and contemporary music with a Celtic connection.

And now that the coffee’s hot enjoy Caffé Italia from 7:00 to 8:00am, serving up a slice of Italy every Saturday morning. You don't have to speak Italian to taste it: just relax, listen, and enjoy!

From 2 - 3 it's Well into the Eighties with Daniel Crippin. Classic alternative music from WESU's extemsive vinyl archive paired with the best in new indie rock.

From 3 - 4 it's Democracy Now! from Pacifica. Hosted by Amy Goodman, Democracy Now! gives access to peopleand perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. media, including journalists, rasstoos leaders, activists, artists, academics and ordinatry people from around the world.

The BBC World News comes on board at 4am followed at 5 with Morning Edition from NPR.

Good evening, it's Tuesday September 26th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown brings you the Middlesex Drum Circle tonight. The Wesleyan Center for the Arts in Middletown hosts an artist’s lecture this right now (kicking off at 5 pm ) At the Border of Truth: Photographing the New East, which takes place at the Ring Family Performing Arts Hall. Thursday’s offerings include a Music Colloquium lecture, a film screening, and a concert of vocal music at Crowell Concert Hall. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the run of “Columbus,” about two strangers brought together in a small Midwestern city, along with “Unleashed,” about an unexpected encounter with transformed animals. The afternoon movie, Patti Cake$, about an unlikely rapper who meets a hip-hop legend, also continues. They all run through Thursday. On Friday they open “No Maps on My Taps,” a documentary about contemporary tap dancing. Also opening is “The Nile Hilton Incident” a film noir about a murder in Cairo. Special events on the weekend include a screening of “School Life,” a documentary about the only primary-age boarding school in Ireland, and “John Le Carré – An Evening with George Smiley,” the proceeds of which benefit Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
