Good evening, it's Wednesday November 8th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Thursday’s double bill at Café Nine has Casey James Prestwood and the Burning Angels, along with Jay Russell and the Split Coils. Friday’s Happy Hour features The Sulls, and the late show headlines Lucas Brode and Ourselves, Alone, appearing with Human Flourishing. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Gary Grippo & Friends, and later it’s The Proletariat, Stefan Christensen & Friends, and Construction Paper. At the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown on Friday, you can join The BeeKeepers for an evening of original and cover songs that pay tribute to great female artists at The Buttonwood. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and in the evening it’s the Sharp 5 Jazz Ensemble. On Sunday, the NEAR and Far Storytellers take the Buttonwood stage. The Wesleyan Center for the Arts continues to celebrate Meredith Monk this week, on Thursday, with Meredith Monk in Conversation with Judy Hussie-Taylor at the Ring Hall. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the run “Loving Vincent,” a painted animation about the life of Vincent Van Gogh, and “Jane,” a documentary about conservationist Jane Goodall, through Thursday. On Friday they open “BPM (Beats Per Minute),” a French film about AIDS activism in Paris in the 1990’s.  Details & screening times at www.realartways.org

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run of “Indivisible,” an Italian film about conjoined twin singers, through Wednesday. Thursday’s OUTFilm CT Second Thursday’s movie is “Professor Marston and The Wonder Woman,” about the unconventional women in the life of Wonder Woman’s creator. On Friday they open “Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House,” about the FBI man known as Deep Throat who leaked the Watergate scandal. From 6 - 6:30 it's Think Twice Radio with Al Robinson.
The undertaking of "Think Twice Radio" is to reassert the "watchdog" role of the media by ramping up coverage of Connecticut issues in a non-partisan manner.

And from 6:30 -8 it's Fusion Radio with James Fusion.
The original... and still the best damn Techno mix on radio!

From 8 - 9:30 it's The Warehouse with Mike Nyce.
The best of underground house music mixed live for your listening pleasure.

And starting at 9:30 and running until 11, it's N.E. Tempo with DJ Berk.
Dubstep, DnB, techno, ragga jungle, breakbeats mixed live.

From 11 -midnight it's Genrebusters with Baby Ruth and Willy J. A music history show that dives into the rise and phenonemon of cult sub-genres of music like MOR, "slacker-rock", prog-funk and trap.

And at midnight it's Who Sampled? with Margilla Madman and Bebbs. A music show that plays songs that sample other songs.

From 1 - 2 am it's Unsure with Racha and SarBot. Each program we cover a different topic through various forms of sonic media, whether with lyrical to instrumental music, archival news and interviews, movie and TV clips.

From 2 - 3 it's Well into the Eighties with Daniel Crippin. Classic alternative music from WESU's extemsive vinyl archive paired with the best in new indie rock.

From 3 - 4 it's Democracy Now! from Pacifica. Hosted by Amy Goodman, Democracy Now! gives access to peopleand perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. media, including journalists, rasstoos leaders, activists, artists, academics and ordinatry people from around the world.

The BBC World News comes on board at 4am followed at 5 with Morning Edition from NPR.
