Happy Thanksgiving!

Good evening, it's Thursday November 23rd. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Now here's some of what's happening in our area this week:

Friday evening, The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown hosts New England’s comedy rock band the Coconuts. Saturday evening, it’s the Andrew Biagiarelli Trio, along with bluegrass performed by My Girl My Whiskey & Me. The Hearing Voices Network meets Monday at 10:30. Enjoy their photography exhibit, Nature’s Wonders Art Show, through the month. www.buttonwood.org

At the Russell Library in Middletown, on Friday morning, there’s Adult Coloring for Stress Reduction. Check the website for events and offerings for all ages. www.russelllibrary.org

In New Haven at Café Nine Friday’s Women in Music Happy Hour features Vangie Durst, Alison Farrell and Kelly Kancyr. That’s followed by the 5th annual Black Friday Affair, headlining Sky Swamp Orange, appearing with Paranormal Adam, Drop Kick Pop, and more. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with the George Baker Band, and the late show features Ports of Spain, and Jake McKelvie & the Countertops. Infinity Hall hosts a Thanksgiving buffet on Thursday with two settings. On Friday, you can enjoy bluegrass and folk with David Rawlings and his band at Infinity Hall Hartford. Singer/songwriter and soul artist Javier Colon takes the stage on Saturday. www.infinityhall.com

The Connecticut Historical Society invites you to their ongoing exhibit, Visions/Revisions: The Print Transformed, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Printmaker’s Network of Southern New England. On a somber note, this Sunday at 2pm at the Buttonwood Tree, there will be a memorial service to Remember, Honor, and Celebrate the life of Viso Ngozi Ãz-Ibo, Poet, family man, and host of Classik Az (sounds like Oz) which broadcast late-night on Saturdays for nearly a decade.  We will resurrect his voice through some of the most significant and powerful recordings he left behind from his WESU radio show and poetry performances. Calling all poets, especially those who knew Viso, please bring a poem or two to share. There will be opportunity for family, friends and acquaintances to share how much Viso meant to all of us and express ourselves in his honor through the spoken word he so dearly loved.  For those who are not able to physically join us, the gathering will be live streaming on Facebook! more at www.wesufm.org
