Thursday's Jive

Good evening, it's Thursday, May 24th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown brings you The Middlesex Drum Circle on Thursday. On Friday, enjoy the Andres Collins Trio from Canada bringing you acoustic roots and more. The Aligned with Source workshop is on board Saturday morning, and singer/songwriter Andrew Biagiarelli performs Saturday night along with Someone You Can Xray. John Basinger performs the one-man play, “Lear Alone,” Sunday night. The multimedia exhibit by artist Geonna Kline runs through the month. www.buttonwood.org

Tonight in New Haven, Café Nine presents The Way Down Wanderers and The Alpaca Gnomes. Friday’s Happy Hour at Café Nine features The Gatehouse Band. Friday night’s late show includes Roosevelt Dime and The Let Loose. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with the George Baker Band, followed by the late show with Pinned and Sewtured presenting the Puppet Cabaret Variety Show. The Sunday Buzz Matinee brings back the George Baker Band, and they round out the weekend with a Sex Beat Dance Party Memorial Day Shinding with DJ Kid Congo Powers. http://www.cafenine.com/

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “1945,” a film about Holocaust guilt in Hungary, and “Lives Well Lived,” the collected stories of people aged 75 to 100. Also continuing is “I Feel Pretty,” starring Amy Schumer as an insecure woman who believes she’s a supermodel after a head injury. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues a run “Loveless,” a Russian film about the disappearance of an adolescent boy. Right after the Jive, stay tuned for The Latin Music Hour with Isabel. Latin music from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's.

From 6:30-8pm Fusion Radio with James Fusion presents a 90 minute techno mix.

At 8pm The Warehouse with Mike Nyce features underground house music, mixed live for your listening pleasure.

From 9:30-11pm  It's The Vault with DJ Anton Banks, wrapping up our electronic dance music block.

From 11-midnight it's Mentaltown with El Vee.

At midnight to 1:30 it's Lyrics 2 Go with Doc Ish. A hip hop music comedy talk show that highlights upcoming artists. 

And starting at 1:30 until 4am it's disco with Franco, playing all of those disco hits from the 70's and '80's.
And at 4am, the BBC World News comes on board and we begin our broadcast day with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
