The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown brings you the Anything Goes Open Mic & Moments of Gratitude tonight with Bill Katz. Chi Balance class continues on Tuesday and Wednesday, and there’s also Intentional & Empowering Yoga Tuesday afternoon. On Friday, Story City Troupe takes the stage. The Aligned with Source workshop is on board Saturday morning, and the Jen Allen Jazz Quartet performs in the evening. www.buttonwood.org

In New Haven, Café Nine’s Manic Mondays presents a Ryan White Record Release Show, with James A.M. Downes, Pinfinger, and more. On Tuesday it’s Wess Meets West, Snowpiler, the Refectory, and Ourselves, Alone Calls.It’s another Words & Music special on Wednesday, and on Thursday, there’s another Record Release show with John Gorka. Friday’s Happy Hour features Lyn Malavolte, and the late show’s got Greyhounds and The Split Coils. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Mike Coppola and Friends, followed by the late show with Strawberry Cheesesteak and Added Color. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Michael Palin’s Orchestra plays jazz, R&B, and soul classics on Tuesday. The Community Blues Jam happens every Wednesday, and on Thursday it’s Liviu’s Invitational. Middletown City Arts Advocates will be assembling at Middletown City Hall on Tuesday May 29 @ 6pm for a peaceful protest prior to the common council’s meeting when they will vote yes or no on the future of the City’s position of full time Arts Administrator. Protestors will wear attire that reflects the arts community they represent.   


It’s Tuesday Night Metal at Cherry Street Station in Wallingford starting at 7:30 pm with Kaos Reign, Soldiers Of Solace, and more. On Friday they’ve got Imbröglio, Nuclear Unicorn, and others. The Russell Library in Middletown hosts their Classic Mystery Book discussion Tuesday at 7 pm on “The Crow Trap” by Ann Cleves. The Library Leadership and Management Association presents a webinar on Wednesday at 2:30 pm, Assessing your Library Buildings. There’s a Mother-Daughter Book Discussion Wednesday at 6 pm on “Wonder,” as part of the One Book on the Riverbend series, and the Connecticut Poetry Society also meets at that time. Their Jazz Up Close series continues Thursday at 7 pm with guitarist/composer Amanda Monaco and her Pirkei Avot Project. Peter Standaart’s Divine Enthusiasm project happens Saturday at 10:30 am, and the US Passport Office will be there for you to obtain or renew a passport. Mark your calendar for Reader's Theater's final play of the season, "Ben Butler," set during the Civil War but with a message about racism that's still needed today. The play, by Richard Strand, is full of wit, wordplay and wiliness, and, for extra fun, has Richard Kamins playing Maj. General Butler. Performances are at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 4, at the Durham Public Library, and at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at Russell Library. Check the library websites for details.

The Greater Hartford Arts Council sponsors Art on the Streets Tuesdays on Pratt Street in Hartford at 11:30 am. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Lives Well Lived,” the collected stories of people aged 75 to 100, and “Isle of Dogs,” a stop-motion film by Wes Anderson, as well as “Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat.” On Friday they open “The Guardians,” a French film about loss and resilience in WWI, and “Becoming Who I Was,” about a young boy’s trek to become a Tibetan monk. Saturday’s film is “Abe and Phil’s Last Poker Game,” and includes a post-film Q&A with cast member Pamela Dubin. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues “King of Hearts,” an ultra-HD restoration of the 1966 cult classic about a WWI soldier in a French village.
