Thursday's Jive

Good evening, it's Thursday October 19th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

at the Russell Library in Middletown On Saturday the Karkowska Sisters Duo performs with chamber music, stories, and comedy. Tonight , Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the run of their current afternoon movie, “Wind River,” a thriller about a murder on a Native American reservation, also screening through Thursday is “Lucky,” about the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist. Friday, they open “Loving Vincent,” a painted animation, about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. The afternoon Movie starting Friday is Tulip fever. Details & screening times at www.realartways.org

Tonight, Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford kicks off their run of “Wind River”. Right after the Jive stick around for Homegrown, with Rob DeRosa the award winning  Music Show-playing Connecticut connected artists often treating the listeners to pre-release material and in studio interviews with artists, the show also provides information about live shows in the area.

At 6:30 stay tuned for Imagine with Karen Stein, offering Peace through music! Listen to the best music from around the world and around the block!

From 8:00-9:30pm stick and stay with WESU for Evening Jazz with Bill Denert, providing A broad range of swing, be bop and avante garde with a sprinkling of new releases. "Hearing is the best experience"

At 9:30 its Crispix with Chris From indie rock to folk to electronic and more, Chris picks whatever he's feeling this week to share with you.

From 11-midnight it’s The American Empire with, Tootse Mutant offering an exploration of the influence of American cultural imperialism on foreign music, such as Korean Hip-Hop, Japanese Jazz, and Peruvian Punk and so much more.

From midnight-1am it’s Jazzalicious Definition with DJ Stocks'n'Socks and MC McGee traveling through the history of jazz by highlighting a different artist, sub-genre, or time period each week.

Stay tuned from 1-2am for Fake News with DJ Alias and DJ Nick at Night who offer An irreverent take on political punditry, provided by two guys who love the sound of their own voices.

From 2-3am it’s the Sonic Hour with DJ Jackson with a focus on indie rock, prog pop, power pop, indie pop, etc. Shows will compare music from a previous generation with their contemporaries.


From 3-4am it’s Democracy Now! from Pacifica. 

At 45am We bring you the BBC World Report and we kick of weekdays with Morning Edition from NPR From 59am.
