Good evening, it's Wednesday, June 26th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Now here's some of what's happening in our area this week:

Here in Middletown, the Russell Library hosts Scrabble Wednesday per usual at 5pm in Meeting Room 3 and at 6pm, the CT Poetry Society meets in Meeting Rm 2. Thursday afternoon at 2, The Russell Library continues their Military experience writing group. Jeff Husch hosts a Solar for all meeting at 3:30 on Friday afternoon at The Library and you can view their website for info about other programs for kids and adults alike! www.russelllibrary.org

The Middletown Arts & Culture Office invites you to visit them at www.facebook.com/CityArts   for details on events happening here in Middletown like Like: Seth Adam’s performance Thursday night at 5:30 at the Mattabesett Canoe Club overlooking the CT River.
The Buttonwood Tree invites anyone interested in playing percussion to join the Middletown Drum Circle Thursday at 7. Friday afternoon at 1:30, at the Buttonwood Tree, the Hearing Voices Network with Jessica Miller meets and Friday night at 8 the Sharp 5 Jazz Ensemble performs. In New Haven, Café Nine offers DADDY LONG LEGS along with Orb Mellon tonight/Wednesday, and on Thursday you can catch THE WOGGLES and Renegade Lounge at The Nine. Friday Café Nine’s weekly 5pm Happy hour live music set features Snake Hill Blues this week. Later Friday night, you can catch Seepeoples, Portrait Party, and Private Language.. Saturday’s jazz jam session is with the Billy Cofrances, this week. WRECKLESS ERIC and Pete Mazza (of Jacques Le Coque) are the main event Saturday night. The Sunday matinée features SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO’ TRIBUTE TO GRAM PARSONS AND JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK, and they finish out the weekend Sunday night with a bill featuring HATFIELD, LENAPE "THE PEOPLE", PASSING STRANGE, and TIM MCDERMOTT. http://www.cafenine.com    

Thursday, the The State House in New Haven presents Goodnight Blue Moon with the Meadows Brothers and Little Silver for a night of roots and folk music! Friday night, Mdou Moctar, acclaimed master-guitarist from the Sahara makes his return to The State House for a night of psychedelic music along with with Spectre Folk.  Saturday night The State House is celebrating DJ Prime’s Birthday in a big way with performances from DAS EFX, Mr Sinasta (of the Executioners), and more! www.statehousepresents.com

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Tim McDonald leads their Weekly Community Blues Jam on Wednesday. Liviu’s Invitational comes your way on Thursday nights at Black-eyed Sally’s.  Friday Night The Led Zeppelin Tribute Band, Physical Graffiti performs. Infinity Hall in Norfolk brings you a free show with AUGUSTE AND ALDEN tonight/Wednesday at 7pm. The 2nd Annual CT House Music festival returns to Bushnell park in Hartford this Saturday. Kicking off at 10 am the event features DJs spinning music all day into the night plus vendors and more. You can find more by searching CT house music festival on Facebook!
Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues 2 film screenings this week, “Pavarotti,” is a documentary of legendary opera singer, and “Woodstock: Three Days that Defined a Generation,” explores the iconic event defined as more miracle than mess. Through Thursday, Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues “The Silence of Others,” a Spanish film that follows the epic struggle of justice-seeking victims of General Franco.  Friday night Cinestudio begins a run of the new Chinese action drama, Shadow (Ting). At 6 until 6:30 it's Growing Greener with Tom Christopher. A wide-ranging showcase of the music and media that WESU staff and alumni feel represents our eighty years of history.

From 6:30-8pm, it’s Fusion Radio with James Fusion. The original ... and still the best damn Techno mix on radio!

From 8-9:30, it’s The Warehouse with Mike Nyce - The best of underground house music, mixed live for your listening pleasure.

At 9:30 until 11pm DJ Anton Banks brings you The Vault. Presents listeners with the latest in hard techno, 
minimal, tech-house, and leftfield mixed live. Featuring exclusive music from international artists.

From 11pm to midnight, it's 80 Years of WESU with DJ Cheshire Cat. A wide-ranging showcase of the music and media that WESU staff and alumni feel represents our eighty years of history.
And from midnight to 1am, it's Noize in the Attic, Where Your Past Comes Back To Haunt You. Serving Connecticut it’s hard rock fix of classic Heavy Metal as well as the latest from the genre!

From 1 to 3am it's Gospel Boogie with James Zurek. A secular exploration of up-tempo gospel music from 1945-1965.

And starting at 3am and running until 4, it's Democracy Now! from Pacifica. Access to people and perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. media, including jounalists, grassroots leanders, activists, artists, academics and ordinary people from around the world. 
And finally, rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World Report offering International news coverage and we kick off each weekday at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
