Good evening, it's Tuesday, June 25th. This is the Jive at
Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on
88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica,
as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and
weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form
programming.
I'm Ben Michael, you can catch my summer radio show, crate
digging, on Thursday afternoons for a free-form romp through a wide range of
music that’s graced my record crates during the 20 plus years I’ve been a WESU
DJ. From heavy duty dub reggae and righteous spoken word to funky sounds soulful
sounds from around world with a bit of heavy metal, jazz and blues, there are
many crates to dig! I hope you’ll join me.

Here in Middletown, The Russell Library a career workshop
with Linda Valkenberg at 6pm. Tomorrow, Scrabble Wednesday is on per usual at
5pm in Meeting Room 3 and at 6pm, the CT Poetry Society meets in Meeting Rm 2.
Thursday afternoon at 2, The Russell Library continues their Military
experience writing group. Jeff Husch hosts a Solar for all meeting at 3:30 on
Friday afternoon at The Library and you can view their website for info about

Also this (Tues) evening, The Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in
Middletown hosts their monthly open mic. Ten Readers will get five minutes to
read, sing, perform, or present. There’s another local author event at Wesleyan
RJ Julia with the Theme: Physical & Spiritual Wellness. Dr. Stacey Cooper,
will talk about her book, Heal Your Health-Nourishing Your Mind, Body and

The Buttonwood Tree invites anyone interested in playing
percussion to join the Middletown Drum Circle Thursday at 7. Friday afternoon
at 1:30, at the Buttonwood Tree, the Hearing Voices Network with Jessica Miller
meets and Friday night at 8 the Sharp 5 Jazz Ensemble performs. More

In New Haven, at Café Nine, tonight/Tuesday JUMP CASTLE
RIOT, Lyon Street Fire, & Seth Adam take the stage. The Nine offers DADDY LONG
LEGS along with Orb Mellon on Wednesday, and on Thursday you can catch THE
WOGGLES and Renegade Lounge at The Nine. Friday Café Nine’s weekly 5pm Happy
hour live music set features Snake Hill Blues this week. Later Friday night,
you can catch Seepeoples, Portrait Party, and Private Language.. Saturday’s
jazz jam session is with the Billy Cofrances, this week. WRECKLESS ERIC and
Pete Mazza (of Jacques Le Coque) are the main event Saturday night. The Sunday
matinée features SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO’ TRIBUTE TO GRAM PARSONS AND JOSHUA
TREE NATIONAL PARK, and they finish out the weekend Sunday night with a bill

Tonight, the The State House in New Haven presents Elm City
Games’ Island of Misfit Trivia Game Night come to the State House. Thursday night, Goodnight Blue Moon takes the
state house stage with the Meadows Brothers and Little Silver for a night of
roots and folk music! Friday night, Mdou Moctar, acclaimed master-guitarist
from the Sahara makes his return to The State House for a night of psychedelic
music along with with Spectre Folk.

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues 2 film screenings this
week, “Pavarotti,” is a documentary of legendary opera singer, and “Woodstock:
Three Days that Defined a Generation,” explores the iconic event defined as

Through Thursday, Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford
continues “The Silence of Others,” a Spanish film that follows the epic
