Good evening, it's Monday, June 24th. This is the Jive at
Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on
88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica,
as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and
weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form
programming.
I'm Leith Johnson, host of The Light Fandango, heard every
1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday of the month at 4pm, where you'll hear uncommon songs
of the 1960s and 70s from across the musical genres. I hope you'll tune in.

Here in Middletown, The Buttonwood Tree hosts Anything Goes Open Mic
& Moments of Gratitude with Bill Katz tonight. Anyone interested in playing
percussion is invited to join the Middletown Drum Circle Thursday at 7. Friday
at 1:30 it’s the Hearing Voices Network with Jessica Miller and Friday night at
8 the Sharp 5 Jazz Ensemble performs. More information at www.buttonwood.org
In Meeting Room 2, tonight at 7pm, The Russell Library in Middletown hosts a
discussion of Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters. Tomorrow/Tuesday eve there’s a career workshop
with Linda Valkenberg at 6pm. Scrabbled Wednesday is on per usual at 5pm in
Meeting Room 3 at Russell Library and at 6pm, the CT Poetry Society meets in
Meeting Rm 2. Thursday afternoon at 2, The Library continues their Military
experience writing group. Jeff Husch host s a Solar for all meeting at 3:30 on

Tomorrow (Tues) evening, The Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in
Middletown hosts their monthly open mic. Ten Readers will get five minutes to
read, sing, perform, or present. There’s another local author event at Wesleyan

will talk about her book, Heal Your Health-Nourishing Your Mind, Body and

Ohmme, and Daphne Lee Martin. Tuesday JUMP CASTLE RIOT, Lyon Street Fire, &

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues 2 film screenings this
week, “Pavarotti,” is a documentary of legendary opera singer, and “Woodstock:
Three Days that Defined a Generation,” explores the iconic event defined as

Through Thursday, Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford
continues “The Silence of Others,” a Spanish film that follows the epic

From 11-12:30am, it’s Hits of the 60s and 70s with Jimmy Z,

From 12:30-1:30am Matt the Cat keeps the oldies spotlight
going on Juke in the Back from Pacifica.
Next up at 1:30, Nutmeg Junction offers a new
original-scripted audio theater program celebrating the golden age of radio.
At 2 am Roots World with Cliff Furnald takes you on a tour
across borders and genres, introducing you to music from far flung places and
sometimes from right in your own backyard.
From 3-4 am stay tuned for a rebroadcast of the day’s noontime
episode of Democracy Now! from Pacifica.
Finally, rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World
Report offering International news coverage and then we kick off each weekday
at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
