Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights
and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in
free-form programming.

Now here's some of what's happening in our area this week:
At the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, there’s a Shaking the
Tree Gong Bath and Sound Healing on Thursday, and on Friday you can enjoy
standards and more with the Restless Mountain Bluegrass group. The Aligned With
Source workshop happens Saturday morning, followed by the first of an
eight-week interactive workshop, All the Write Ways, that explores forms of
self-expression for writers. There’s a Teen Open Mic at 3 pm, and in the
evening it’s acoustic folk with Seat of Our Pants. You can view the new
exhibition, “Wildlife in the Tree,” by Elizabeth Ann McNalley, throughout the

In New Haven, at Café Nine, tonight/Tuesday you can catch
Palindromes, Eel People, and Chris Daly. Wednesday’s headliner is Thrashing
Violet, appearing with Audiohaze. On Thursday it’s Swanky Tiger and Big Fang.
Friday’s Happy Hour features Buzz Gordo’s Ski Lodge, followed by the evening
show with Barrence Whitfield & The Savages, and Muck and the Mires. The
Saturday Jazz Jam Session is with Tony Di and Friends, and the late show brings
Olivia Jean and Honey Cutt to the stage. The Sunday Buzz matinée features Tammi
Savoy & The Chris Casello Combo, along with Shean Young and Sean Mencher,

At Black-Eyed Sally’s in Hartford, Michael Palin’s Other
Orchestra will bring you jazz, R&B, and soul classics on this
evening/Tuesday. The Community Blues Jam on Wednesday is with Phil DiIorio, and
Liviu’s Invitational comes your way on Thursday. The Rich Badowski Blues Band
is in the house on Friday night, and on Saturday it’s the return of Eight to

The Middletown Arts & Culture Office reminds you that
the six-week Shakespearean Acting class at Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater
continues tonight, with the Writing Plays continuing on Thursday. The Godfrey
Memorial Library holds a genealogy research help session Wednesday morning, and
the Rockfall Foundation’s Meet Your Greens networking meeting takes place at
Lan Chi’s Vietnamese Restaurant Thursday evening with Sami Jo Jensen speaking
on how to green your body care routine.
The Recreation Division sponsors Family FUN Night on Friday
at the Woodrow Wilson Middle School.
There’s a Student Show at Wesleyan Potters on Saturday
afternoon, and in the evening the MAC 650 Gallery and Artist Co-op celebrates a
record release party with Namesake, Sam Sandoval, and Evan Diem.
On Sunday the Mac hosts the monthly gathering of the
Resilience Rain-Dwellers to explore alternate sources of mental wellness. South
Congregational Church sponsors the 27th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Russell Library in Middletown hosts the Russell Readers
this evening/Tuesday to discuss “Zelig” by Benjamin Rosenblatt. The Job and

Scrabble Wednesday is on at 5 pm, and there’s a new
Community Café in the Hubbard room as well where you can enjoy refreshments and
table talk with others.
The offsite Books and Brews series starts off 2020 at
Stubborn Beauty Brewing Thursday evening to discuss “The Lager Queen of
Minnesota” by J Ryan Stradal.
And they open their new Lifestyle Medicine 2020 series
Saturday morning with a session by Dr. Dipak Patel. The library will be closed

Up in Hartford, Monday Night Jazz continues at the Arch
Street Tavern, and the Riverwood Poetry Series starts at Real Art Ways

The Bruce Gregori Quartet hosts a Wednesday Jazz jam session
at The Half Door Wednesday evening as well.
The Charter Oak Cultural Center hosts a reception for their
Poetry on the Streets on Thursday at 5:30.
The Mirror Visions Ensemble performs music by American
composers as well as historically marginalized American groups at the Wadsworth
Atheneum on Saturday afternoon, and you’re invited to their Martin Luther King
Jr. Community Day next Monday starting at 10 am. Winterfest Hartford, with free

Manic Presents is at the Space Ballroom in Hamden on
Thursday with Rhett Miller and Jason Ingriselli. On Friday, they headline The

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues runs of “Parasite,” a
modern Korean fairy tale, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” starring Tom
Hanks as you-know-who, “Harriet,” based on the life of iconic freedom fighter
Harriet Tubman, and “Cunningham,” a tribute to choreographer Merce Cunningham, through

Trinity College’s Cinestudio continues their run of “Pain
and Glory,” about an aging director dealing with his doubts and physical ailments,
through Wednesday. Their National Theatre Live matinée offering on Sunday is

Rabbit,” a black comedy about a German family’s drama in the Third Reich years.

From 6-8pm Bill Revill brings us Acoustic Blender, offering
an eclectic selection of new and older folk, Americana, bluegrass, blues and
other music that has a roots influence with a concert listing at 7pm and
frequent concert and festival ticket giveaways. Tonight, Acoustic Blender
presents "Bend In The River" from across the river in Portland
featuring 2 young up-and-coming bluegrass pickers playing both traditional and

starting with Back Down the Bayou for 2hrs of swamp rock funk and soul followed
by Louisiana Barn Dance bringing us an hour of Cajun and roots country sounds.
at 3am third shift listeners can catch an encore presentation
of our noontime broadcast of Democracy Now!
At 4am we kick off our daytime public affairs block with BBC
World Report followed by morning edition from NPR at 5am.
