on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and
Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights
and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in
free-form programming.

Now here's some of what's happening in our area this week:
At the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, the Middlesex Drum
Circle meets this evening, and on Friday the Andrew Wilcox Trio takes the stage
to bring you jazz standards, originals, and more. The Aligned With Source
workshop happens Saturday morning, followed by the All the Write Ways Workshop
with Briana Una McGuckin. Enjoy jazz, funk, classics, and more on Saturday
night with the Joe Belmont Experience. You can view the current exhibition,
“Wildlife in the Tree,” by Elizabeth Ann McNalley, throughout the

In New Haven, at Café Nine, tonight, You can catch Los
Elk and Phat A$sstonaut on Thursday. Friday’s Happy Hour features DW Ditty,
followed by the late show with Richard Lloyd and Witch Hair. The Saturday Jazz
Jam Session is led by the Café 9 All-Stars this week, and the late show brings
Lara Hope and The Arktones, along with the Televisionaries, to the stage. The
Sunday Buzz matinée features John McMillen and Fiona Hill, and they finish out

At Black-Eyed Sally’s in Hartford, Liviu’s Invitational
comes your way on Thursdays. You can catch American roots, rockabilly, and more

The Middletown Arts & Culture Office reminds you that
Oddfellow’s Playhouse, and they opens a Circobatics Class this Saturday
morning, followed by a Teen Talent Search at 1 pm. The Godfrey Memorial Library
holds a genealogy research help session this Friday morning, and on Saturday
afternoon the Rockfall Foundation celebrates its annual Holiday Party and
Silent Auction with all proceeds benefitting environmental education and

On Friday, the Unitarian Society of Hartford presents Reggie
Harris performing spirituals, roots, and originals at their Bloomfield Avenue
location. City Steam Brewery hosts comedian Kevin Farley on Friday and
Saturday. The Connecticut Historical Society sponsors a Behind-The-Scenes Tour
on Saturday on The Fight for Women’s Suffrage in CT. There’s a CD release show
for Portrait Party at the Arch Street Tavern Saturday night, with special
guests The Professors of Sweet Sweet Music. There’s a drag brunch at the Wadsworth
Atheneum on Sunday featuring Tony DiPietro in “Babs Over Easy.” Full details on

At the Russell Library in Middletown, There’s Yoga in the
Hubbard Room on Sunday afternoon. Consult the website calendar for future

Artists for World Peace invites you to a storytelling
session tonight/Thursday at 7:30 pm featuring Sara DeBeer and Steve Long at the

Manic Presents is at the Space Ballroom in Hamden on Friday
for two comedy sessions with Chris Distefano, appearing with Mike Suarez. They

Kashmir and their Led Zeppelin Show, and on Saturday it’s the Wherever Tour by

with performers on two stages, and on Saturday there’s another original

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in
central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues runs of “Parasite,” a
modern Korean fairy tale, “Cunningham,” a tribute to choreographer Merce Cunningham,
and “Earth,” a documentary on the delicate crust of the planet. Check the

Trinity College’s Cinestudio is now showing “The Aeronauts,”
about a journey of exploration in the stratosphere. On Friday there’s a
one-time Moonlight Movies screening of “She’s the Man,” starring Amanda Bynes
taking on her brother’s persona in a soccer final. They open “Harriet”, about

In Hartford, the Night Fall 2019 video will be screened for

Right after the Jive, stay tuned for Homegrown with Rob
DeRosa. Voted “Best Radio show” in the 2019 CTNOW Hartford reader’s
poll, Homegrown exclusively features Connecticut connected
artists where listeners often enjoy pre-release material and in studio
interviews with artists, and information about live shows in the area.
From 6:30-8pm, Karen Stein offers peace on air with her show, Imagine, bringing you a soulful mix of music from around the world.
at 8:00 stick around for Evening Jazz, with Bill Denert for 90 minutes of straight ahead jazz with some adventurous offshoots!
From 9:30 to 10:30, it's Modern Jazz Today, from Pacifica
From 10:30 to 12:30, it's Uprfront Soul with Sanguine Fromage for two hours of funk and soul.
Then from 12:30 to 1, it's Deep Threes for 90 minutes of
experimental music.
at 2am it's The Hour of Slack unti 3-4am when we’ll rebroadcast our noontime edition of Democracy Now! from Pacifica.
And finally, rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World Report offering International news coverage and we kick off each weekday at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
