Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and

Now here's what's going on in our area this week:
The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown brings you the Middlesex
Drum Circle tonight. On Saturday morning it’s the Aligned With Source Workshop,
and in the evening you can enjoy Ameranouche, bringing you Gypsy Flamenco
Swing. The Hearing Voices network meets on Monday mornings at 10:30. http://buttonwood.org/
The Wesleyan Center for the Arts in Middletown hosts an
artist’s lecture this right now (kicking off at 5 pm ) At the Border of Truth:
Photographing the New East, which takes place at the Ring Family Performing Arts
Hall. On Thursday they host the 41st annual Navaratri Festival, a celebration
of the music, dance, and artistry of India. Thursday’s offerings include a
Music Colloquium lecture, a film screening, and a concert of vocal music at
Crowell Concert Hall. They continue on Friday with henna and chaat samplings,
and music and dance at Crowell Hall. The festival winds up on Saturday with a
Hindu ceremonial blessing ceremony and a final concert at Crowell. Full details

Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in Middletown hosts a discussion
and book signing, tonight at 7 with Juliana Gray (aka Beatriz Williams), NY
Times-bestselling author, who presents her new book, “A Strange Scottish
Shore.” On Wednesday they host local author and activist Sarah Prager with her

At Russell Library in Middletown, it’s Banned Books Week with
community members and library staff, reading passages from their favorite
passages of books that are or once were banned tonight at 5 pm and continuing
tomorrow (Wednesday) at 1 pm. The Classic Mystery Book Discussion group meets tonight
at Russell Library to explore “The Postman Always Rings Twice.” There’s Yoga in
the Courtyard Saturday, and at 1 pm Sat. they host author/historian Marty
Podskoch to discuss his new book, “Connecticut Civilian Conservation Corps
Camps: Supervised by WWI Officers.” Don’t forget, it’s the final week to return

In New Haven at Café Nine tonight, you can catch the
Appleseed Collective. On Wednesday they headline Jason Eady, appearing with
Belle of the Fall. Thursday brings you a John Ferrara & Seth Moutal
Showcase, with a workshop preceeding starting at 7. Friday’s Women In Song
Happy Hour brings you Allison Farrel and CB Sheehan, followed later by a Puppet
Cabaret with DJ Icebucket. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Billy Cofrances,
and the late show is the Ideat Village Rock Lottery. The Sunday Buzz Matinee
has The Vibrators with a 40th Anniversary Tour, and the late show features Sex

Orchestra get funky with their take on jazz, R&B, and soul classics. Wednesday's
community blues jam session features Tim McDonald this week. This Friday, it’s

Manic Presents brings Seu Jorge to the College Street Music
Hall in New Haven on Tuesday, with The Life Aquatic, A Tribute to David Bowie.
They’re back on Wednesday with Mike Gordon. Or, you can hear The Blasters and
Flat Duo Jets at The Ballroom at The Outer Space in Hamden. Thursday’s Ballroom
bill has Yelle and Mission Zero, and Friday they’ve got The Russ Liquid Test
and Marvel Years. It’s the Ballroom again on Saturday with Rainer Maria, Mates

This Sunday afternoon Brings The March for children, to
raise awareness and support for the children in our community. There’s a parade
from Macdonough Elementary School on Spring St in Middletown to Harbor Park. At
harbor park there will be vendors and educational booths set up until 7pm.
Connecticut’s Farmers Markets are still in session. Most run
through the end of October and offer opportunities to find home-grown goods and
support local growers. Middletown’s long running market on the South Green is
on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 1 pm and Middletown’s North End Farmers
Market is on Friday’s from 10 am to 2 pm. Cromwell’s market is on Fridays 4-7

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in
Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the run of “Columbus,”
about two strangers brought together in a small Midwestern city, along with
“Unleashed,” about an unexpected encounter with transformed animals. The
afternoon movie, Patti Cake$, about an unlikely rapper who meets a hip-hop
legend, also continues. They all run through Thursday. On Friday they open “No
Maps on My Taps,” a documentary about contemporary tap dancing. Also opening is
“The Nile Hilton Incident” a film noir about a murder in Cairo. Special events
on the weekend include a screening of “School Life,” a documentary about the
only primary-age boarding school in Ireland, and “John Le Carré – An Evening
with George Smiley,” the proceeds of which benefit Médecins Sans Frontières

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run
of “Whose Streets?” a documentary of the aftermath of the killing of a black
teenager in Ferguson, MO, through Wednesday. On Thursday they open “Detroit” a
recreation of the 1967 Detroit riots. Sunday’s opening is “Dunkirk.” Check the

At 8pm, The Voice of the CITY with J-Cherry offers a weekly
dose of live and local Connecticut arts and music.
From 9-10pm it’s The Test Patterns Show with Chaim
O'Brien-Blumenthal
At 10pm it’s Radio Writer's Salon with DJ Steven where
Wesleyan profs and student authors read their works, talk about the writing
process and conferences.
From 11-midnight stay tuned for Dumpster Dive with DJ Smelly
featuring punk, art pop and D.I.Y coming from a garbage compactor near you.
At Midnight, it’s Yours Truly with DJ Balsamic and DJ
Megnanimous
From 1-2am soup sounds with joseph features home recordings,
lo-fi, concerts, field recordings, and esoterica.
Maximum Rock and Roll Radio takes over with an hour of loud
rock and roll from 2-3am
at 3am M-Th this Fall season at WESU, we'll rebroadcast the day's noon-time run of
Democracy Now! from Pacifica
at 4am we bring you BBC's world report before we kick off
our Tuesday morning programming with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
