Good afternoon, it's Friday,August 11th, and this is the Jive at Five - WESU's Daily community calendar and run down of night time programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown, your station for NPR, Pacifica, independent and local public affairs by day and the best in free-form community programming week nights and weekends. I'm Stephan Allison, host of River Valley Rhythms heard Thursdays at 4 pm here at WESU. Now, here’s a rundown of some of what’s going on in the community this weekend.
At the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown tonight The Ebin-Rose Trio & Kristin Rebecca perform a night of Americana music. On Saturday morning it’s the Aligned With Source Workshop, and Saturday evening they present the Franco/American duo, The Whispering Tree. On Sunday at 5pm the NEAR and Far Storytellers, hosted by Jim Harriman and Carolyn Stearns and featuring Sara deBeer perform. Details @ buttonwood.org

Tonight in Middletown at MAC650 Gallery, 650 Main St., there’s a fashion art exhibition opening featuring the clothing sculptural works of Kelley Griffin, beginning at 7pm. Details @ facebook.com/CityArtsOffice

Saturday the 6th CT Continental Regiment is staging a Revolutionary War encampment re-enactment in the backyard of the Middlesex County Historical Society headquarters on Main St. in Middletown beginning at 10 am. Details @ facebook.com/CityArtsOffice

Tonight New Haven’s Café Nine Happy Hour is with Burning Sensations at 5pm. Later, Fernando Pinto Presents: Willie Nile, Amy Rigby, and No Line North. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Gary Grippo & Friends. And later at night, Café Nine presents:  Fiction, Black River Union, and Mojo Dojo.  The Sunday Buzz Matinee brings you Seth Adam, Tuesday Saints, and Rivers at 4pm.  Sunday night at 9 its New Haven's Only Rock & Roll Dance Party, featuring “Sex Beat” w/ DJ Kid Congo Powers. At Toad’s Place in New Haven tonight there’s a bright night glow party w/10 DJs in two rooms. Saturday Fluent Fest brings another night of DJs. Details @  toadsplace.com

At Hartford’s Black-Eyed Sally’s, Vitamin B-3 brings classic R&B/Southern Soul/deep Blues, with a little Jazz and Funk. Saturday’s headliner is Blues and Soul Singer Toni Lynn Washington. Details @ blackeyedsallys.com

Tonight Infinity Hall in Hartford presents The Jelly Jam featuring Ty Tabor (king’s X), John Myung (Dream Theater), and Rod Morgenstein (Winger). Blues man Robert Cray takes the infinity Hall Hartford stage Saturday night. At Infinity Norfolk, you can catch The Joshua Radin Duo tonight, and The Led Zeppelin Tribute band Kashmir on Saturday. Renowned Acoustic Guitarist Andy McKee plays Infinity Norfolk Sunday. Open now are: Middletown’s North End Farmers Market on Friday’s from 10am to 2pm, as well as Middletown’s long running market on the South Green on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 1pm. Cromwell’s market is on Fridays 4-7 pm; Durham, Thursdays 3-6 pm; and Glastonbury, Wednesdays 4-7pm, Plainville Fridays 3-6 pm, and Berlin Saturdays, 9-1 pm. Details @ ctnofa.org

Tonight, Hartford’s Real Art Ways opens Pop Aye, a Thai movie about the reunion of a Bangkok architect and elephant. Also, the matinee showing is Beatriz At Dinner, a film starring John Lithgow and Selma Hayek who collide in this dark comedy. Both run through Aug. 10. Details & screening times at realartways.org

Tonight, Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford opens their series 7 Beauties, The Films of Lina Wertmüller with The Seduction of Mimi, Saturday it’s Seven Beauties, and Sunday Swept Away.. Details and screening times at cinestudio.org

And now let’s take a look at tonight’s programming on WESU and to be safe, it's best to check the WESU website for the up-to-date schedule.

Right after the Jive At Five from 5:05 to 7pm, it'll be Free Talk Radio with Deni and Al Robinson addressing news, politics, entertainment & weather and featuring listeners’ call-ins.

At 7 until 8:30pm we have the Universal Sound Wave with Sistah Tee - offering listeners a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues. Plus health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips.

Next up until 10pm, we take it From the Otherside with Rok-A-Dee where 60% of the show is love songs of different genre and the others Reggae Dancehall, R&B, and new artiste.    
                                                        
Then from 10 to 11:30pm it's Strickly Off the Head where DJ Commotion the Music Mixologist provides a live mixshow done on the fly or freestyle, with no pre-planned mixes or blends - R&B, old school, hip hop, rap and house.

From 11:30pm until 2am Saturday we go into serious OVERDRIVE w/Clarence & Shantay Scott - offering Urban Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Traditional gospel music.

From 2 until 4am you are taken to Wonderland with DJ Cheshire Cat, who has
a song in his heart, a chemical imbalance in his head and a musical library at his fingers. From krautrock to post-rock, grunge to garage, novelty to New Romantic, punk to prog, Wonderland has a place for it.

The Hour of Slack from The Church of the SubGenius Radio Ministry covers the hour from 4 to 5am with a compendium of the best and newest from all SubGenius radio & stage shows, bands, ranters, media barrage collage artists, plus the weirdest of the indie audio underground.

And we bring in the daylight from 5:00 to 6:00am with theBBC World News - a daily News roundup from the British Broadcasting Corporation, and Pacifica

And staying on the other side of the big pond, from 6 to 7am it’sthe Celtic Café with Pat Laffan and Mark Gallagher presenting traditional and contemporary music with a Celtic connection.

And now that the coffee’s hot enjoy Caffé Italia from 7:00 to 8:00am, serving up a slice of Italy every Saturday morning. You don't have to speak Italian to taste it: just relax, listen, and enjoy!
