Here in Middletown, The Buttonwood Tree tonight it’s Shaking the Tree, a Gong and Sound Meditation at The Buttonwood Tree. Tom Wrann and Tom Mooney bring you acoustic guitars, a banjo stick, and more Friday night. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, followed by a Teen Open Mic in the afternoon. The evening performance is the Indie Pop ensemble TRAG. This month’s exhibit is photography by Ed Friedman. www.buttonwood.org
In New Haven tonight at Café Nine you can catch Hillbilly Casino and The Redactions. Friday’s 5pm Happy Hour show features The Buttondowns. Later Friday night, Eurisko, City Streets Country Roads, Kevin MF King, and more take the Café Nine Stage. Saturday’s afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Tony Dioguardi & Friends. Saturday night Café Nine features The Men in Gray Suits, Black Flamingos, and Ninth Wave. Here in Middletown This Thursday evening, you can catch Martha Redbone: Bone Hill in Concert at 7:30pm at Crowell Concert Hall. Bone Hill is inspired by four generations of Martha Redbone's family lineage (Cherokee/Shawnee and African American), and its historic and cultural connections to the land in the coal-mining Appalachian Mountains of Harlan County, Kentucky. Here in Middletown, each Wednesday in July, the Wadsworth Mansion will open at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking, and shows on the Mansion’s back lawn will begin at 6:30 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public however, donations are accepted and appreciated. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Zoo,” based on a true story of a boy who saves an elephant in a Belfast zoo, and “Three Identical Strangers,” a documentary about identical triplets adopted out at birth, through Thursday. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run of “2001: A Space Odyssey,” in a special unrestored 70 mm version to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its release, through Thursday.
