Good evening, it's Wednesday, January 17th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. On Thursday, at Café nine, it’s The Quest, Jonsey, Shy, and more. Friday’s Happy Hour performance is a Mike Damico Birthday Bash with Kriss Santala and Lonesome Billy Calash. Friday night’s main event at The Nine features Goodnight Blue Moon with Stefanie Austin and The Palomino Club. Saturday’s weekly afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Tony Dioguardi & Friends Saturday night Café Nine features tongue in cheek rockers, Satanicide, appearing with The Zambonis and The Hymans. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, the weekly Community Blues Jam happens on Wednesday nights and this week’s session will be hosted by Gene Donaldson. It’s Liviu’s Invitational at Sally’s on Thursday, and on Friday Loups Garou (Lu-Ga-Ru) takes the stage. On Thursday at The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, they’ve got Shaking the Tree, a Gong and Sound Meditation. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:

Through Thursday Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “The Florida Project,” about a family in a budget motel near Disney World.  “In the Fade (Aus Dem Nichts),” a German film about a mother who loses her child in a Neo-Nazi bomb attack also ends its runs tomorrow (Thurs). Battle of the Sexes ends its run as Real Art Ways afternoon film, tomorrow (Thurs). Weekend offerings include “Rebels on Pointe,” a documentary about the drag group Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Also kicking off a run at Real Art Ways this weekend is: In Between, which tells the story of three very different Palestinian women living together in Tel Aviv, as they try to find a balance between traditional and modern culture. Tonight, Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford ends their run of “Loving Vincent,” an animated feature about the iconic artist, Vincent Van Goh. On Thursday they open “Heat and Dust,” a restored James Ivory film about a woman’s trip to India to learn about her scandalous aunt. From 8 - 9:30 it's The Warehouse with Mike Nyce featuring a live mix of deep underground house music.

at 9:30 and running until 11, it's The Vault with Anton Banks Presents listeners with the latest in hard techno, minimal, tech-house, and leftfield mixed live. Featuring exclusive music from international artists.

From 11 -midnight there’s more music with Stephen Marshall and from midnight to 3am, stay tuned for Franco, who brings you all of those disco hits from the 1970's and 80's!

From 3 - 4 we’ll rebroadcast today’s noontime episode of Democracy Now from Pacifica

And at 4am we bring you the BBC's world report before we kick off our Wednesday morning programming with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
