Good evening, it's Monday, January 15th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. Happy MLK Junior Day. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown hosts their usual Anything Goes Open Mic & Moments of Gratitude tonight with Rob & Terri.  There’s Empowering Yoga on Tuesday afternoon, with Laughter Yoga and a Crystal Bowl Sound Healing in the evening. It’s Kanaha Yoga on Wednesday morning. On Thursday, they’ve got Shaking the Tree, a Gong and Sound Meditation. On Friday, enjoy blues, psychedelic guitar, and more with Shane Scarazzini & EightFingers. The Aligned with Source Workshop and Meditation happens on Saturday morning, and a Teen Open Mic at 3 pm. The evening show brings you Ringrose & Freeman, with Celtic offerings, fiddling, and more. The Hearing Voices Network meets Monday morning. In New Haven, CafĂ© Nine’s Manic Mondays brings you The Sea The Sea, and This Frontier Needs Heros. On Tuesday, they headline Joey Sprinkles.  Wednesday brings another session of Words & Music. On Thursday, it’s The Quest, Jonsey, Shy, and more. Friday’s Happy Hour a Mike Damico Birthday Bash with Kriss Santala and Lonesome Billy Calash, followed by the late show with Goodnight Blue Moon, and Stefanie Austin and The Palomino Club. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Tony Dioguardi & Friends, and the late show headlines Satanicide, appearing with The Zambonis and The Hymans. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, it’s Jazz Mondays with the Oleg Butman Trio. Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra comes your way Tuesday night. The Community Blues Jam happens on Wednesday with guest Gene Donaldson. It’s Liviu’s Invitational on Thursday, and on Friday Loups Garou (Lu-Ga-Ru) takes the stage. At the Russell Library in Middletown, Middlesex Hospital continues the Tobacco Cessation Workshop on Tuesday at 11 am, with Origami in the evening. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “The Florida Project,” about a family in a budget motel near Disney World, and “The Light of the Moon,” about a Latina architect in Brooklyn dealing with a sexual assault, through Thursday. Also continuing is “In the Fade (Aus Dem Nichts),” a German film about a mother who loses her child in a Neo-Nazi bomb attack. The weekend openings include “Django,” about a jazz guitarist in Nazi-occupied Paris, and “Rebels on Pointe,” a documentary about the drag group Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues “Loving Vincent,” an animated feature about the iconic artist, through Wednesday. On Thursday they open “Heat and Dust,” a restored James Ivory film about a woman’s trip to India to learn about her scandalous aunt.
