Fri, 2-7 Jive

Good evening, it's Friday, February 7th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independ ent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

 The Story City Troupe appears the The Buttonwood Tree tonight. The Aligned With Source workshop happens tomorrow morning, followed by the All the Write Ways Workshop with Briana Una McGuckin. It’s bluegrass at the Buttonwood tomorrow evening with Redwood Hill. You can view the current exhibitions, “Were You Here” by Ryan Martin and “Blue Pearl” by Heather Cohen, throughout February. There will be a reception for the artists tomorrow afternoon. www.buttonwood.org

In New Haven, at Café Nine  this evening’s 5pm live music Happy Hour set features Hatfield, and the late show’s got Home Body, Brain Bank, and The Forest Room. Tomorrow's Saturday Jazz Jam Session is with Gary Grippo, followed by Wayne Hancock and Roses Wild in the evening.. The Middletown Arts & Culture Office reminds you that this evening, you can meet the jewelers of the Wesleyan Potters at a reception at the studio.  Trinity College’s Cinestudio just opened a run of "Queen & Slim," about two contemporary outlaws, and on Sunday, they open the classic story of family relationships, “Tokyo Twilight.” Full details at http://www.cinestudio.org

From 6-6:30pm, it's the Middletown Youth Radio Project with DJ Itsjobro, DJ Juicebox and DJ Stocks& socks, a weekly radio program featuring the thoughts, voices, creativity and talent of the kids in the WESU neighborhood.
From 6:30-8pm, it's
Universal Sound Wave with Sista Queen T, playing a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues. Plus health,
nutrition, and stress reduction tips.
Then from 8-9:30pm, it's Grand Central Station with DJ Jenny Doll. Travel back in time to the 1940's and 1950's with a swinging upbeat show filled with big band,
jazz, swing and rockabilly, and some new releases.
From 9:30-10:30pm, it's An A and a B with DJ N
Every band has its hits - and a multitude of unknown, hidden gems. Songs played per band (70s-
2000s rock) seek to highlight this dichotomy.
