Good evening, it's Friday, October 4th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

 At the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, the Aligned with Source Workshop for Self-Awareness happens tomorrow morning. The Story City Troupe takes the Buttonwood stage tomorrow evening, and . Enjoy jazz with Karen Frisk and her group on tomorrow night. www.buttonwood.org

At the Russell Library in Middletown,  at 7 this evening, there’s an offsite First Fridays Book Discussion at RaMa LuNa Center for Yoga about Pam Jenoff's “The Orphan’s Tale.” Marcia Witter presents a Health Workshop tomorrow morning on “Lack of Sleep,” and town School Health Supervisor Mary Emerling holds training on emergencies at 1 pm, “Until Help Arrives.” Consult the website calendar for more events geared to patrons of all ages. www.russelllibrary.org


In New Haven, at Café Nine the weekly Friday 5pm Happy Hour is just starting. The live music set features Buzz Gordo. Tonight's main event is the Ideat Village Rock Lottery Day 1. The Weekly Café Nine 4pm Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam session is with Michael Coppola. Tomorrow night brings Ideat Village Rock Lottery, Day 2. The Sunday Buzz Matinée features Wild Ponies, and their Blues Jam with the George Lesiw Band rounds out the weekend. http://www.cafenine.com/

Also in Hartford, you can join a Historic Tour of Bushnell Park tomorrow morning at 10, or take the “When Disaster Strikes” tour at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The Connecticut Historical Society holds a Fall harvest event for kids tomorrow as part of their Free First Saturday program.
RealArtWays holds an inaugural Connecticut Literary Festival tomorrow with panels, readings, food trucks and a book fair, and you’re also invited to Colt Park to celebrate Night Fall, an outdoor performance celebrating seasonal change with art, music, dance, puppets and more.
Catch sci-fi fusion with Consider the Source, performing at the Arch Street Tavern tomorrow night. Christ Church Cathedral hosts a Centennial Cole event Sunday at 3 pm, celebrating 100 years of Nat King Cole with Orice Jenkins, the Cuatro Puntos String Quartet, and the Music Moves Hartford Street Choir. The Middletown Arts & Culture Office reminds you that It’s Off The Record Indie Night tonight at Conspiracy in Middletown, and tomorrow morning The Godfrey Memorial Library provides a Genealogy Research Help session.

Middletown’s Art Walk happens tomorrow with a Climate Action showcase at the Mac 650 Gallery & Artist Co-Op. The Recreation Division holds a Breakfast Bingo tomorrow, and at noon there’s a Pumpkin Fest at Long Lane Farm, hosted by Wesleyan’s College of the Environment, where you can enjoy live music, farm tours, crafts, and more.

Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts presents the Connecticut premier of “Paramodernities,” by choreographer Netta Yerushalmy tonight at the CFA Theater. Tomorrow they offer a Master Class movement workshop at 11 am on Deconstructing Dance History with Choreographer Netta Yerushlamy.
Jazz vocalist Giacomo Gates performs at the Russell House on Sunday at 3 pm.

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” a celebration of the iconic vocal artist, and “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” a comedic drama about a New York woman trying to improve her life. Monos, a critically acclaimed survivalist saga set on a remote mountain in Latin America, opens today.   www.realartways.org

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues a run of “Maiden,” the documentary of an all-female crew competing in the Whitbread Round the World sailing race.  Sunday’s opening is the late Robert Altman’s “Nashville,” a restored version of this 1975 story blending music, politics, cultural satire, and more, with an award-winning ensemble cast. at 1:30-3am OVERDRIVE with Clarence and Shantay Scott present a unique mix of urban contemporary, hip hop, and traditional gospel musict!
from 3-5am ack Down the Bayou with Bill Boelens is an eclectic Louisiana roots music show from the Banana Plantation in Baton Rouge.
