Good evening, it's Friday, Oct. 25th and  This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WE SU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

In New Haven, at Café Nine, tonight's weekly live Happy Hour music showcase features Hatfield, followed by Anthony Da Costa and David Wax Museum. Café Nine’s Weekly Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam session is with the George Baker Band and the Saturday night main event brings you Richard Lloyd and Happy Ending. The Sunday Buzz Matinée features Jake Kulak & The Lowdown, appearing with Vicki F. The nine finished out the weekend with The Meadows Brothers, Noble Dust, and Pat Stone sharing a bill Sunday eve. http://www.cafenine.com/  

At The State House in New Haven,  tonight  it’s the Rock Lottery Finals where four groups meet four musical challenges. The Statehouse headlines Nikhil P. Yerawadekar and Low Mentality tomorrow, appearing with the Forest Room.  Sunday Multiplex 5, the statehouse improvised music series, features Joe Morris, Jamie Saft, Brant Beale, and many more. www.statehousepresents.com

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, you can catch blues-based rock and roll tonight with Mambo Sons, and tomorrow the Aussie group Harper & The Midwest Kind takes the stage to bring you harmonica and the didgeridoo. http://www.blackeyedsallys.com/

Infinity Hall Hartford tonight, it’s Completely Unchained, a Van Halen tribute band. At Infinity Norfolk, tonight they’ve got folk singer/songwriter Sean Rowe. Illusionist and Comedian Andy Gross is in the house tomorrow, and on Sunday, you can catch The Mighty Pines, a jam band playing bluegrass and roots rock. www.infinityhall.com

Here in Middletown tonight, the Buttonwood Tree offer a night of bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers. The Aligned With Source Workshop happens tomorrow morning, and tomorrow evening Frankie and The Know It Alls play blues/rock classics. The Middletown Arts & Culture Office announce The Godfrey Memorial Library offers a genealogy research help session tonight. The Wadsworth Mansion holds a 2-day Halloween Bash fundraising event, A Strange Evening with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,tonight and tomorrow evening. The Middletown Substance Abuse Prevention Council partners with the US Postal Service tomorrow morning for Passport Day, and also offer yoga in the Hubbard Room. Paul Rice will speak about medical massage modalities in the afternoon at Russell Library. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” a celebration of the iconic vocal artist; “Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements,” a memoir about a deaf boy, his grandfather, and Beethoven; and “Anthropocene: The Human Epoch,” a documentary about human planetary domination. Today they open “Fantastic Fungi,” a documentary about the healing power of fungi, with post-film discussions tonight and tomorrow Also opening today is WHERE’S MY ROY COHN?  www.realartways.org

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford  they open “Hustlers,” about New York strippers who turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. There’s a one-time showing of a new, Ultra HD version of “Donnie Darko” tonight as part of their Moonlight Movies series. At 6:30 Middletown Youth Radio Project is a 30 minute weekly radio program featuring the thoughts, voices, creativity and talent of the kids in the WESU neighborhood.
Next, from 7-8:30pm Universal Sound Wave with Sista Queen T offers a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues. In addition, she features health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips.

at 8:30  Grand Central Station with DJ Jenny Doll invites you to travel back in time to the 1940's and 1950's with a swinging upbeat show filled with big band, jazz, swing and rockabilly, and some new releases.

From 10-11pm Loxion Music Mix Show with M-Point brings listeners a showcase of the newest and best of Southern African Electronica dance music.

at 11pm stay tuned for Mentaltown with The Ultimate Emcee El Vee for a dose of unsigned Local Hip Hop.

at Midnight,  Permanent Collection with Chris offers an hour of Non-toxic creative radio.
From 1:30-3am, OVERDRIVE with Clarence and Shantay Scott bring a mix of contemporary and traditional urban gospel music.

From 3-5am, Back Down the Bayou with Bill Boelens presents an eclectic Louisiana and roots music show from the Banana Plantation in Baton Rouge.

And finally, from 5-6am the BBC World Report offers International news coverage.
