radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs
sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you
the best in free-form programming.

Here's some of what's happening in
our area this week:
Here in Middletown, on Friday at the
Buttonwood Tree, you can enjoy jazz fused with blues, gospel, and soul
performed by Deborah Davis and a Few Good Men. The Aligned with Source Workshop
happens Saturday morning, and Saturday evening, B’s Bees, a high energy jazz

In New Haven, tonight/Wednesday at
Café Nine, Wayne Hancock, appears with Nathaniel Hintz. The David Mayfield
Parade takes to the stage on Thursday at The Nine. Friday’s Happy
Hour features Laura Dowding, and Friday night The Plimsouls and Dust Hat
perform at Café Nine. On Saturday night, New Caracas and the Matt Knoegel Trio

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s
it's the Community Blues Jam happening every Wednesday and on Thursdays at
Sally’s it’s Liviu’s Jazz Invitational with special guests. Friday,
singer/songwriter Aaron Norcross Jr takes the Black-Eyed Sally’s stage and you

There’s another installation of the
Arch St Tavern’s Booyah Free Funk Wednesday event this week and you can catch
funk rock fusion on Friday at 8:30 at Arch Street with a performance by
Zillawatt who shares the bill with Lush Hone and Quantum Relic. On Saturday,

Riverfront Recapture sponsors a
weekly contemporary dance class, Dance Current, Tuesdays at 6 pm at the Great

The Pratt Street Patio Lunchtime
Music Series in Hartford continues Thursday with a performance by Brian
Dolzani.
The Connecticut Old State House in
Hartford continues its Summer Concert Series on Friday at noon with a
performance by the Val Ramos Flamenco Ensemble.
The Pratt Street Patio in Hartford
brings you blues and rock on Friday at 5 pm with a performance by Jake
Kulak.
The Nick Di Maria Quartet performs
at the Hanging Hills Brewing Company in Hartford Friday at 7 pm.
RJ Julia Booksellers and The Mark
Twain House present the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature,
Jacqueline Woodson, at the Mark Twain House in Hartford this evening/Wednesday

At Toad’s Place in New Haven it’s

The Connecticut Historical Society
holds Free First Saturday this week starting at 10 am. Explore their ongoing
WWI exhibit or bring the kids for an interactive session about factory work for

It’s Agricultural fair season again
in Connecticut and the 107th Haddam Neck Fair happens this Friday through
Monday. Offering concessions, a carnival midway with rides and games,
agricultural competitions and displays, truck and tractor pulls, 4x4 demos and
a ton of live music. Friday night, local rockers Gatekeepers’ Band and Rock
Landing take the stage. Saturday’s lineup includes Goodnight Blue Moon, Ninth Wave,
Someone You Can XRay, and Tim Palmieri and Friends. On Sunday they’ve got Frank
Critelli and Friends, Belle of the Fall, 1974, and concludes with Shakedown,

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues
“Three Identical Strangers,” a documentary about identical triplets adopted out
at birth, and “The Cakemaker,” about a young German baker’s relationship with
an Israeli businessman. Also continuing is “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda,” a
documentary about this iconic Japanese film composer, and “Mountain,” a
cinematic montage of the man-mountain relationship. They all run through
Thursday. On Friday they open “Memoir of War,” a French WWII drama of love and
loss, and “John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection,” a deep exploration of the
notorious tennis star and his craft. Check the website for details and

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in
Hartford continues the run of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” a film exploring the
legacy of Fred Rogers, through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday they’re
screening “First Reformed,” about an upstate New York minister dealing with a
crisis of faith. On Sunday they open a run of the restored 1982 cult classic

At midnight to 1:30 it's Lyrics 2 Go
with Doc Ish. A hip hop music comedy talk show that highlights upcoming
artists.
And starting at 1:30 until 4am
Franco, plays all of those disco hits from the 70's and '80's.
And at 4am, the BBC World News comes
on board and we begin our broadcast day with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
