Here in Middletown, tonight, The Buttonwood Tree offers their Anything Goes Open Mic hosted by Bill Katz. There’s Gentle Yoga with Theresa on Tuesday. On Friday you can enjoy jazz fused with blues, gospel, and soul performed by Deborah Davis and a Few Good Men. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and in the evening B’s Bees, a high energy jazz group, takes the stage. www.buttonwood.org
In New Haven, Café Nine’s Manic Mondays brings you
Michael Stasis, Pearl Sugar, and Dumlords. It’s a Back to School Fundraiser for
Family Centered Services on Tuesday with Daphne Lee Martin, Linda Draper, and
more. Wednesday’s headliner is Wayne Hancock, appearing with Nathaniel Hintz.
The David Mayfield Parade takes the Café stage on Thursday. Friday’s Happy Hour features Laura Dowding,
and the late show’s got The Plimsouls and Dust Hat. On Saturday night, New

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Their Jazz
Mondays series continues with the Matt Deleon Qunitet, tonight. Michael Palin’s
Orchestra plays jazz, R&B, and soul classics on Tuesday. The Community
Blues Jam happens every Wednesday, and on Thursdays at Sally’s it’s Liviu’s
Jazz Invitational with special guests. On Friday, it’s singer/songwriter Aaron
Norcross Jr, and you can catch Chicago blues on Saturday with Rockin’ Johnny

The Hartford Jazz Orchestra performs at the Arch
Street Tavern in Hartford tonight at 8 pm. There’s another installation of the
Tavern’s Booyah Free Funk Wednesday
event and you can catch funk rock fusion on Friday at
8:30 at Arch Street with a performance by Zillawatt at they share the bill with
Lush Hone, a progressive funk band, and Quantum Relic. On Saturday, they’ve got

Gerrish, and Thursday with a performance by Brian Dolzani. Hartford’s

It’s fair season again in
Connecticut and the 107th Haddam Neck Fair happens this Friday
through Monday. Enjoy the usual fair offerings of concessions, amusement rides,
competitions, and animals. On Friday, the Gatekeepers Band and Rock Landing
take the stage. Saturday’s lineup includes Goodnight Blue Moon, Ninth Wave,
Someone You Can XRay, and Tim Palmieri and Friends. On Sunday they’ve got Frank

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track
in Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Three Identical
Strangers,” a documentary about identical triplets adopted out at birth, and
“The Cakemaker,” about a young German baker’s relationship with an Israeli businessman.
Also continuing is “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda,” a documentary about this iconic
Japanese film composer, and “Mountain,” a cinematic montage of the man-mountain
relationship. They all run through Thursday. On Friday they open “Memoir of
War,” a French WWII drama of love and loss, and “John McEnroe: In the Realm of
Perfection,” a deep exploration of the notorious tennis star and his craft. Check

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” a film exploring the legacy of Fred Rogers, through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday they’re screening “First Reformed,” about an upstate New York minister dealing with a crisis of faith.
