Here in Middletown, The Buttonwood Tree holds its Open Mic & Moments of Gratitude tonight hosted by Terri and Rob. There’s Laughter Yoga with Dawn on Tuesday, followed by a Crystal Bowl Sound Healing. Simple Tai Chi with Mike McEwen Laughter Yoga happens Wednesday evenings and Thursdays at noon. Andrew Prue offers a Gong Meditation on Thursday night, and on Friday it’s An Evening of Jazz and Classic Rock with The Modern Riffs. The Aligned With Source Workshop is on as usual Saturday morning, and performers at all levels are invited to a Music Workshop in the afternoon with Rob DeSorbo. 4 States of Jazz takes the stage Saturday night, and on Sunday there’s a Level 2 Reiki Training with certification. In New Haven, at Café Nine, Manic Mondays brings you Plague Vendor, Videodome, and Witch Hair. On Tuesday at Café Nine they headline Dale Watson and Kinky Friedman. It’s Words & Music again on Wednesday. On Thursday, Soraia, Dust Hat, Gems, and Kris Rodgers & The Dirty share a bill at Café Nine. Friday’s 5pm Happy Hour performance features Jordan Giangreco, and the Friday night late show brings you Future Punx, Pleasure Beat, and Glambat. Cage Nine’s weekly Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Billy Cofrances, followed by the Saturday night main event featuring Alethea, Laundry Day, ditch boys, and more. The Sunday Buzz Matinée features The Alpaca Gnomes and Among The Acres, and Café Nine rounds out the evening with Shank ‘n’ Vibrate Sunday night. http://www.cafenine.com/
Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Jazz Mondays features Robert Lotreck, live on stage tonight. Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra brings you jazz, R&B, soul classics, and more on Tuesday night at Black-eyed Sallys. Wednesday’s community Blues Jam features Tommy Whalen, and it’s Liviu’s International on Thursday nights with special guests. You can enjoy rock, funk, and more on Friday with the Michael Cleary Band. Locomotion, a party and dance band, is in the house at Sally’s, Saturday night. At the State House in New Haven, Rohn Lawrence & Friends aims to Cure Your Case of the blues on Monday nights. On Friday, The State house welcomes Mauritanian musician Noura Mint Seymali. The Russell Library in Middletown hosts the Newington Humane Society tonight at 6 pm with “Safety PAWtrol,” tips about adopting a pet. The Library Board of Trustees meet Tuesday night. Scrabble Wednesday comes your way at 5 pm, and 6 pm there’s as well as a Google Drive Workshop. The free Spring Greenhouse Show & Tour at Elizabeth Park in Hartford continues daily through Friday. The Wadsworth Atheneum brings in the new season on Wednesday with a Spring Parade, starting on the museum steps at 4:00. The Hartford Flavor Company brings you live music with Ysanne in their Friday Night Flavor series. They host The Great Hartford Story Slam on Saturday. Christ Church Cathedral hosts “The Curve,” with Iraqi musician and composer Ameen Mokdad, on Friday, performing with the string quartet in residence with Cuatro Puntos. The annual Connecticut Spring Show with antique and decorative arts takes place at the Connecticut State Armory on Saturday and Sunday. The Hartford Library sponsors a writing center with free advice by UConn consultants on Saturday, and on Sunday at 3 pm, in the Baby Grand Jazz series, the Mary DiPaola Trio performs. On Friday, Whindersson Nunes Performas at College St and on Saturday you can catch José González & The String Theory ay College St. At the Space Ballroom in Hamden Saturday, Manic presents a night of hardcore rock with Into Another, Beyond, and Death Ray Vision. Middletown Arts & Culture Office announces that the Shoreline Arts Alliance presents IMAGES 2019, the oldest jury-curated photography competition in Connecticut, opening Thursday at the Guilford Art Center. There’s an Artists’ Reception Friday night, and the exhibit runs through April 6th. The 7th Annual CT World Water Day Art Show and Fundraiser happens at the MAC650 Gallery and Artist Co-op on Saturday. And the Skating Rink is open on weekends. Oddfellow’s Playhouse in Middletown announces “Circus Botanicus,” an original circus-theater piece about the secret life of plants, with performances Thursday through Sunday. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “To Dust,” a dark comedy about a Hasidic cantor’s obsession with his dead wife’s remains, and “Cielo,” a cosmic meditation on the night sky in Chile, through Thursday. Also continuing is “CatVideoFest 2019,” this year’s collection of the latest and best cat videos. On Friday they open “The Sower,” a French historical drama about desperate love in revolutionary times. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues “Capernaum,” about a Lebanese boy who sues his parents for having him, through Wednesday. Thursday through Saturday they’re screening “On the Basis of Sex,” a biopic of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
