Here in Middletown at the Buttonwood Tree, enjoy interactive comedy on Saturday night with FOCUS Teen Improv. The Aligned with Source Workshop comes your way Saturday morning, and in the evening, the Mattabesset String Collective takes the stage with blues, folk, and more. In New Haven, at Café Nine tonight, Happy Hour features Bronson Rock, and the late show brings you DBUK, and Norman Westberg. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Thomas Ice, followed by by a triple tribute show with Straight to Hell, Bollocks, and The Hymans. Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts in Middletown announces free events this week, including Graduate Recitals in Memorial Hall on Saturday evening. There’s a Senior Recital Saturday at World Music Hall, and on Sunday you can hear This Is It! The Complete Piano Works of Neely Bruce: Part XVII at Crowell Concert Hall. You’re invited to purchase tickets to the Sprint Senior Thesis Dance Concerts happening Thursday through Saturday. The 14th Annual Trinity International Hip-Hop Festival happens through Saturday at Trinity College. The Nick Di Maria Quartet is in the house tonight at the Hog River Brewing Company and The Hartford Flavor Company offers live music by local bands this evening. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “Cielo,” a cosmic meditation on the night sky in Chile, and “CatVideoFest 2019,” this year’s collection of the latest and best cat videos. Also continuing is “The Sower,” a French historical drama about desperate love in revolutionary times, and “I Am Cuba,” a newly-restored documentary about post WWII Communism and Latin sensuality. This evening they open “3 Faces,” an Iranian film about a provincial girl studying drama, and “Woman at War,” a film about an environmental activist fighting the aluminum industry. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford is screening “Free Solo” tonight and Saturday, a documentary about the first man to climb El Capitan without ropes. From 6:30-7pm, catch What’s In A Song? With Shiva. What's In A Song takes you through a different musical culture or genre every show through the lens of a single song.
From 7-8:30pm, its Universal Sound Wave with Sista Queen T., for a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues. Plus health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips.
From 8:30-10pm it’s Grand Central Station with DJ Jenny Doll, inviting you to travel back in time to the 1940's and 1950's with a swinging upbeat show filled with big band, jazz, swing and rockabilly.
At 10 until 11:30pm, Russell Fills in for Chris M’s P Permanent Collection for an hour of creative Non-toxic radio.
Following Permanent Collection from 11:30pm-12:30am, An A and a B with DJ N. spotlights the unknown, hidden gems along with the songs a band is well known for.
From 12:30-3am, stay tuned for OVERDRIVE with Clarence and Shantay Scott. Praising God with a unique mix of urban contemporary, hip hop, and traditional gospel music.
