area this week:
Here in Middletown, tonight/Wednesday, at
the The Buttonwood Tree, you’ve got an opportunity to experience a solo
performance by Joe Flood, in his program titled “Songs and Stories Old, New,
Borrowed, and Blues. Tomorrow/Thursday –
at The Buttonwood, You can catch an artist reception for Rosie Warren, whose art
exhibit of abstracts will be on display throughout the month of November. Friday,
Arlene Wow’s quartet Vagabond Bandido performs at the Buttonwood Tree, along
with a screening of a documentary that depicts her Cuban parent's arrival
in the US in the mid 50's as well as the challenges the family faced. Saturday
morning at 10:30 brings the weekly Aligned with Source - Personal Development
Workshop and Meditation, followed by live performance by Dr. Steve’s - Twilight
Zone Show Saturday evening. The Buttonwood rounds out the week on Sunday with

At the Russell Library in Middletown tonight
in the Hubbard room at 6:30 you can catch the program: Medicare Basics
with Peter Leppones of Appella Capital. On Thursday, it’s
the weekly meeting of We Were There: Writing Your Military Experiences. At the
Stubborn Beauty Brewery in Middletown, the library hosts an offsite discussion
of Educated by Tara Westover on Thursday at 6pm. On Saturday
Morning, you can check out the library’s Free Yoga Workshop in the Hubbard room

Manic Presents is at the Space Ballroom
in Hamden tonight/Wednesday with a collaborative set from Uniform and The Body.
Tomorrow you can catch a solo acoustic set from Ty Segall and William Tyler on
Thursday. Friday at The Space Ballroom, you can catch Cursive with Meat Wave and
Campdogzz. At the College Street Music Hall, it’s The Wood Brothers with Nicole
Atkins tonight/Wednesday. Dweezil Zappa: Choice Cuts appears at College St on
Thursday. On Friday, Lucinda Williams and her band Buick Six grace the music
hall, before playing a set at the Wall Street Theater in Norwalk on

In New Haven tonight, at Café Nine, Jim
Lauderdale plays with Zephaniah Ohora. The 4-on-the-floor, Tigerman, and WOAH
play Cafe Nine tomorrow/Thursday. Mike Hatfield plays the 5pm happy hour set show
on Friday m. Friday night, Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys playing with Little
Lesley and the Bloodshots hit the Café Nine Stage. Saturday The Nine’s weekly
afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Gary Grippo and Friends at 4pm. Peter
Holsapple and Chris Stamey take the stage with the Shellye Valuskas Experience,
Saturday night. The Manchurians and Anne
Castellano & The Smoke perform Sunday afternoon, and Cafe Nine rounds out

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s
tonight/Wednesday, you can catch their weekly Community Blues Jam with Ed
Bradley. Livui’s Jazz Invitational with special guests happens Thursday nights
at Black-Eyed Sally’s. Friday night, the Dylan Doyle band, takes the stage. On

At Toad’s Place in New Haven you can
catch HOBO JOHNSON & THE LOVEMAKERS with performing with Oliver Tree, and
Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts on Thursday. Friday it’s a Blacklight Glow Party

Tomorrow/Thursday at 11:50am, the
Wesleyan Center for the Arts invites you to a Javanese Dance Lecture Demonstration
from Dr. Suharti. Thursday evening, you can attend a public lecture by the
Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance on Engaging Traditional Arts
in Contemporary Curatorial Practice. This lecture will be at the Ring Family
Performing Arts Hall. Friday, you can enjoy the music and dance of Yogyakarta
at the Crowell Concert Hall at 7:30 pm. There will be a guided tour of the
Khalil Robert Irving exhibition in the Zhilka gallery at 1pm on Saturday, as
well as a symposium on Enacting Ethnicity and Nationalism in Indonesian
Performing Arts at 9am. At 2:30pm on Saturday, there will be a Wayang Golek
Puppet Play in the World Music Hall. In this performance, Wesleyan Gamelan
Ensemble teams up with Yogyakarta Court Puppeteer Ki Gondo Suharno and the

At Infinity Hall Hartford, you can hear
Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds tomorrow/Thursday. Friday, Infinity Hall
hosts Jesse Collin Young in Hartford and Gregory Alan Isakov with Leif
Vollebekk on Saturday. At Infinity hall Norfolk, you can hear Open Mic Night in
the Bistro on Thursday, as well as Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams with
Malcolm Holcombe in the main room on Friday. On Saturday, catch Celtica - Pipes

Cherry Street Station brings a range of
punk, hardcore, and ska this week as it hosts the Benefit for the North
East Oi Fest on Saturday. Raising money to bring bands to the Oi Fest, the
benefit will be showcasing Cry Havoc, Easy Killer, Brix’n Mortar, On The Loose,

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the
beaten track in Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the
run of “Border” a supernatural romantic thriller about a border guard with a
special superpower. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be two special showings
of “On Her Shoulders,” the story of a 23-year-old Yazidi genocide and ISIS

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford
continues its run of Michael Moore’s “Farenheit 11/9,” about the water crisis
in Flint, MI this week. On Thursday, there’s a special showing of Best of 2018
Short Films. Reel Rock 13, a film showcasing different rock climbing practices
worldwide, is up for a one-time showing on Saturday. On Sunday, this season’s Bolshoi
Ballet brings La Sylphide live from Moscow! Cinestudio also opens a run of
Black ‘47, Ireland’s first full length feature that takes place during the
famine of 1845-50, following an army deserter on his quest for revenge against
