community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU
Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as
independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our
student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.
Now here's
some of what's happening in our area this week:
Here in
Middletown at the Buttonwood Tree tonight, The Lost Tribe with Jocelyn Peasant
takes the stage to bring you Afro-funk fusion. The Aligned with Source workshop
happens Saturday morning, and in the evening you can catch the Blue Soul Jazz
Unit featuring Ricky Alfonso. On Sunday afternoon John Bassinger presents
a one-act play, King Lear, Alone, and in the evening you're invited to
experience Wesleyan student Serena Aimen's work to create a documentary film of
an impromptu concert by immigrant musicians. Enjoy Rosie Warren's art exhibit

In New
Haven tonight, Cafe Nine brings Dittymack for Happy Hour, followed by a
performance of Chris Bousquet's folk-rock opera, The Year of the Horse.
Saturday's Jazz Jam Session is with Mike Coppola and Friends, and on Saturday
night there's a Rock This Town Christmas Extravaganza. The Sunday Buzz Matinee

Toad's
Place in New Haven hosts a Blacklight Glow Party tonight with performers on two
stages, and on Saturday you're invited to The Original Saturday Night College

Up in
Hartford tonight at Black Eyed Sally’s you can hear blues, funk, and more with
the Jake Kulak Band, and the Bruce Katz Band will be in the house on

Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in Middletown brings Mark Slobin on Sunday with
Motor City Music: A Detroiter Looks Back. Check the website for kids events

Saturday
morning at the Russell Library in Middletown is Yoga in the Hubbard Room, at 11

At Infinity
Hall Hartford, they've got Wanted D.O.A., the worlds #1 Bon Jovi Tribute band
tonight. Enjoy pop and soul on Saturday with Javier Colon, and blues and gospel
on Sunday when New Horizens Village presents the Blind Boys of Alabama. At
Infinity Norfolk, they bring you Nathan Carter: Celtic Country on Wednesday,
and Tusk, the Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute band, on Thursday. On Friday it's
Anthony Bonneville and Famous Before We're Dead, featuring Hal Lefferts. Enjoy
folk and pop with Tom Rush on Saturday, appearing with Matt Nakoa, and on

Sophocles'
Antigone, performed by the Teen Repertory Company at the Oddfellows Playhouse,
opens this evening and continues for two weekends. Masks and The Monster, a
wordless performance created by The Other Voice, will be performed on Friday
and Saturday at the Carriage House Theater in Hartford.
The city's
Ice Skating Rink at Harbor Park is open, and the Middlesex Music Academy on
Main Street invites musicians to their Student Rock Band ensemble Saturday at 1
pm, where you can hone your skills of playing in a band. They also hold their 4
Chord Fiesta Saturday at 4 pm. First Church Middletown invites you to their
annual Holly Fair Saturday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, and Vinnie’s Jump and Jive
offers free pictures with Santa on Saturday. You can bring the family and enjoy
Brunch with Santa & Mrs. Clause every Sunday before Christmas at the Lyman
Orchards Homestead.
The annual
Holiday Bazaar happens at the Wadsworth Mansion Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm. And
the 63rd annual Exhibit and Sale is ongoing through December 9th at Wesleyan

Wesleyan
University's Center for the Arts sponsors free senior and graduate recitals at
various locations throughout the week. The Gamelan Ensemble presents a Javanese
Puppet Play: Wayang Kulit tonight at World Music Hall. Music From East Asia,
including performances by the Taiko Drumming Ensemble and the Chinese Music
Ensemble, happens Saturday at Crowell Concert Hall. And the Worlds of Dance
Concert comes your way Sunday at 2 pm, also at Crowell. All performances are

Cherry
Street Station in Wallingford holds a Power of Music Evening of Hard Rock this
evening, featuring Chaser Eight, Entierro, Joe Stump, and more. On Saturday
they've got Dirt, Soldiers of Solace, Diabolis, and Carried by VI. You can

Light Fantasia drive-through at Goodwin Park in Hartford is open, and there's

a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:
Trinity
College's Cinestudio in Hartford they open a run of Interstellar, a futuristic
film in Super Panavision 70 mm. The Sunday matinee performance of the Bolshoi
Ballet is Don Quixote, with all new choreography. They open a run of The Old

Right after the jive at Five stick around for
Homegrown with Robbie DeRosa playing Connecticut connected artists treating
listeners to pre-release material and in studio interviews with artists, and
information about live shows in the area.
At 6:30, its Imagine with Karen Stein offering 90 minutes of Peace through music.
from 8:00-9:30pm you can enjoy Evening Jazz with Bill Denert offering a broad range of swing, bebop and experimental sounds with a sprinkling of new releases, where "Hearing is the best experience"
at 9:30 Let's Get Quizzical with DJ Crybaby and MC Megastar brings you a radio talk show that features two hosts trying to confound their guests - and each other - through trivia.
From 10-11pm it's The American Empire with Yours Truly,
Tootse Mutants - an exploration of the influence of american cultural imperialism
on foreign music, such as Korean Hip-Hop, Japanese Jazz, Peruvian Punk, and so
much more.
Until midnight is This Just In with dj willy j, providing
soundtracks and reactions to the most eye-popping news stories of the week.
From midnight to 1, it's Jazzalicious Definition with DJ
Stocks'n'Socks and MC McGee. Jazzalicious travels through the history of jazz
by highlighting a different artist, sub-genre, or time period of each
week.
From 1-2am, DJ Jackson brings you the sonic hour - focusing
on indie rock, prog pop, power pop, indie pop, etcetera. The show will compare
music from a previous generation with its contemporaries.
Playing until 3 is What The Funk with DJ Jagged Little
Thrill and DJ Amoroso, exploring George Clinton's concept of "the
Funk," as it appears across genres and generations.
From 3-4am is the Hour Of Slack: Reverend Ivan Stang
presents his own commentary, along with recorded material from all SubGenius
radio and stage shows, bands, ranters, media barrage collage artists, and
selections from the indie audio underground created by various SubGenii and
others.
Rounding out the night from 4-5am is the BBC World
Report offering International news coverage and we kick off each weekday at 5am
with Morning Edition from NPR.
