Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as
independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our
student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Here in
Middletown tonight, The Buttonwood Tree brings the Story City Troup to the stage with the theme of
“Distance.” The Aligned with Source workshop happens Saturday morning, and The
Kennedys—Pete and Maura—are back Saturday night with their acoustic folk pop
show. Enjoy Rosie Warren’s art exhibit of abstracts throughout the month of

In New Haven
tonight, Café Nine brings features Burning Sensations for Happy Hour, followed by the late show with the Kurt Baker
Combo, Kris Rodgers & The Dirty Gems, and Jacques LeCoque. Saturday’s
Jazz Jam Session is with Mike Coppola and Friends, and the late show’s got
Fiction, O’K and the Night Crew, and Ditch Boys. The Sunday Buzz Matinee
headlines Fred Eaglesmith & Tif Ginn, and they round out the weekend in the

Up in
Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s tonight it’s Ryan Hartt & The Blue Hearts. On Saturday it’s a doubleheader with Carl Ricci & 706 Union along with Neal

Toad’s Place
in New Haven has a 20th anniversary CD Release Party tonight with The Breakfast, who are there with Creamery Station. They headline

At the
Russell Library in Middletown tonight, enjoy a 6pm opening reception for the new art exhibit, New Land, New Art, a collection of
works by immigrants. They hold a First Friday Bookclub offsite event at 7 pm at
RaMa LuNa Center for Yoga to discuss “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult.

The Wesleyan
Center for the Arts in Middletown invites you to a free Graduate Recital this evening at 8:30 pm at Memorial Chapel. Enjoy a guided tour of the Kahlil Robert Irving
Exhibition at the Zilkha Gallery on Saturday at 1 pm, or a Tea Ceremony with
Kiumi Kamanishi and Stephen Morrell at the Mansfield Freeman Center at 2 pm.
Both are free. The Fall Senior Thesis Dance Concert series, Building Home,

Manic
Presents is at the Space Ballroom in Hamden tonight with The Dodos and Palehound, and they finish out the week on Sunday with Ghost of Paul Revere and
Charlie Parr. At the College Street Music Hall, it’s Elle King and Cordovas on
Saturday night. And in Norwalk’s Wall Street Theater, it’s Live Dead &

Middletown Arts & Culture Office calendar include an opening reception at
the MAC 650 Gallery and Artist Coop Saturday at 3 pm for their new exhibit by

First Church
in Middletown invites you to its renewed sanctuary for the Concert &
Blessing of Our City, on Sunday, November 4, at 4pm. The event celebrates the
350th anniversary of First Church. All are welcome! Admission is FREE,
donations are appreciated. The event includes The World Premier of Lee T.
McQuillan’s VOICES OF OUR ANCESTORS, a tribute to First Church and its history
in Middletown; with Julius P. Williams, president elect of the (US) Conductors
Guild, conducting a chamber orchestra, and First Church combined choirs and
bell choir, conducted by Shari Lucas, minister of music and organist for
the performance. The Rev. Julia H. Burkey will preside, and the Trevor Davis
Dixieland Jazz Band also will perform. Honored guests include Middletown
Mayor Dan Drew, Wesleyan University President Michael Roth, and Middlesex
Chamber of Commerce President Larry McHugh.

rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s
Real Art Ways continues the run of “Liyana,” an animated hero’s journey of
perseverance, and “The Great Buster: A Celebration,” a documentary about Buster
Keaton. Also continuing is “The Wife,” a drama of fame and marriage. On Friday
they open “The Border,” a supernatural romantic thriller about a border guard

Trinity College’s
Cinestudio in Hartford opens “Crazy Rich Asians” on this evening, and on Saturday there’s a one-time showing of “Matangi/Maya/M.I.A.,” a
film about the Tamil activist and Superbowl hip-hop artist. Michael Moore’s
“Farenheit 11/9,” about the water crisis in Flint, MI, opens on Sunday. Check

At 6:30, it’s the Middletown Youth Radio Project, a weekly radio program featuring the thoughts, voices, creativity, and talent of the kids in the WESU neighborhood.
from 7-8:30 it’s the Universal Sound Wave with Sista Queen T – a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, r&b, latin, and blues. Plus health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips.
8:30-10 feature Grand Central Station (1.3.5) with DJ Jeny Doll – travel back in time to the 1940s and 50s with a swinging upbeat show filled with big band jazz, swing, and rockabilly, and some new releases.
Until 11:30, DJ Cocomotion and the Music Mixologist present Strictly Off the Head. A live mixshow done on the fly or freestyle, no pre planned playlist mixes or blends. R&B, old school, hip hop, rap, and house.
from 11:30-12:30 it’s an A and a B with DJ N. Every band has its hits – and a multitude of unknown, hidden gems. Songs played per band (70s-2000s rock) seek to highlight this dichotomy.
From 12:30 -3 we have OVERDRIVE with Clarence and Shantay Scott. Praising God with the best urban contemporary, hip hop, and traditional gospel music on the planet!
Rounding out the night from 3-5 am it’s Louisiana Barn dance with classic country, western swing, hillbilly, rockabilly, and Americana music.
