By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

In Middletown The Middlesex Drum Circle meets at the buttonwood this Thursday. Friday, and award-winning pop singer/songwriter Jann Klose (pronounced Yann Close) takes the Buttonwood Tree stage Friday night. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and The Buttonwood invites you to enjoy the Food Truck on the Farm music festival at Lyman Orchards with a Silent Auction to benefit The Buttonwood Tree from 11 am to 5 pm. Funds raised will support the purchase of a new sound system for the Buttonwood. Back downtown, The Saturday evening show at The Buttonwood a features the Dialect Trio with Mario Pavone for a night of Jazz. www.buttonwood.org
In New Haven at Café Nine tonight is a night of Hip Hop with Old Self, Juswan, Jules Baxter, and more. It’s another Words & Music on Wednesday. This Thursday you can catch Pearl Earl, Jacques LeCoque, and Gvrden at The Nine. Friday, Café Nine’s 5pm Happy Hour features DW Ditty. The Friday night main event features Heavy Weight, Indoor Living, and Adam Wolf. Café Nine’s Saturday weekly afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Billy Cofrances, this week. Saturday night’s bill features Witch Hair, appearing with Ports of Spain, Every Branch, and more. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra plays jazz, R&B, and soul classics on Tuesdays. The Community Blues Jam happens every Wednesday, and on Thursday at Blackeye’s Sally’s Liviu’s Jazz Invitational features special guests. The Russell Library in Middletown hosts Dr. Helen Evrard on Tuesday evening with her new workshop, Language for Brain Health. Also at Russell Library Tuesday, there’s Origami in the evening, and the Classic Mystery Book discussion series continues with Agatha Christie’s “A Pocketful of Rye.” Scrabble Wednesday happens at 2 pm, and they’ll screen the movie “Wonder” at 2:30 pm. In the evening, author Frank Connolly will speak on the Insider’s View to City Hall. The Connecticut Poetry Society holds its monthly meeting. They sponsor marriage and family therapist Tatiesha Perry Thursday evening with her workshop, Practicing Self Care. There’s a LinkedIn Workshop Friday morning. Up in Hartford, Riverfront Recapture sponsors a weekly contemporary dance class, Dance Current, Tuesdays at 6 pm at the Great River Park in East Hartford at 6 pm.
StartStruck: A Cosmic Circus, performed by Cirque Us, happens Tuesday night at the CREC Theatre for the Performing Arts in Hartford.

The Pratt Street Patio Lunchtime Music Series continues Thursday at noon with this week’s featured artist, The Magnetic

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues. “Summer 1993,” a Spanish film about grief and memory, and “The Most Unknown,” a documentary about science and discovery. Also continuing is “Adrift,” based on the true story of two sailors lost on the ocean after a hurricane. On Friday they open “Breath,” a coming of age story based in remote Australia, and “Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf,” a documentary of the artist/designer. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run of “Tully,” a film exploring a mother-nanny relationship. Films on Foss an outdoor movie series created by the Middletown Mayoral Youth Cabinet in partnership with the City of Middletown and Wesleyan University returns to Wesleyan’s Foss Hill this summer family films screening that are FREE and open to the public.
