Good evening, it's Friday June 22nd. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.
Now here's some of what's going on in our area this week:

In New Haven at Café Nine Friday’s Happy Hour features Sean Conlon, and the late show’s got Javier & Los DishDogs, The Lost Weekend, and more. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with the George Baker Band, followed by the late show with Miriam & Nobody’s Babies and Gotham Rockets . The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown brings you The BadSlax Jazz Quartet tonight. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and the Sharp 5 Jazz Ensemble performs Saturday night. The collage and watercolor exhibit by Candice Weigle-Spier runs through the month. www.buttonwood.org

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, It’s the award-winning West Hartford teen band Gravitonik tonight, and on Saturday they celebrate the 19th annual Black-Eyed & Bluesfest starting at 3 pm in Bushnell Park. http://www.blackeyedsallys.com/  

The Greater Hartford Arts Council sponsors Events this week including Paint a Poem, a poetry Open Mic, and Impressions Printmaking.  www.hartford.com/events/

Tonight at the College Street Music Hall, Manic Presents offers a triple bill featuring The Neighbourhood, HEALTH, and Field Medic. On Saturday, the Hamden Academy of Dance & Music presents its 16th Annual Recital: Birth of a Nation.  www.manicpresents.com

Tonight At Infinity Hall in Hartford , XEB performs the best of Third Eye Blind with Stocklyn. It’s roots rock and restless mountain bluegrass on Saturday with the Adam Ezra Group. Infinity Hall Norfolk brings classic Rock with the Outlaws tonight. Saturday, at Infinity Norfolk it's Robert Earl Keen for a night of Folk, Country, Rock, & Bluegrass. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “The Gospel According to André,” a fashion documentary about André Leon Tally, and “The Desert Bride,” a South American romance. Also continuing is “Final Portrait,” a story about the friendship between a writer and an artist. Opening Friday are “Summer 1993,” a Spanish film about grief and memory, and “The Most Unknown,” a documentary about science and discovery. Right after The jive at Five stick around for Grand Central Station with DJ Jenny Doll, who will take on back to the 30’s and forty’s with a mix of big band, jumping jazz, and rockabilly and more!

At 6:30 its time for the Universal Soundwave with Sistah Tee, offering 2 hrs of Reggae, RnB, and old school souls with a touch of Latin and African music plus health and wellness tips!

at 8:30 Rockadee will take you to The Other Side for some sweet lovers rock and dance hall reggae and RNB spotlighting local artists mixed in with the hit makers.

From 10-11:30 Its time for Strictly off the Head with DJ Cocomotion the music mixologist presenting a live mix show done on the fly with no prepared mixes or blends. Featuring classic hip hop and house and R&B.

then at 11:30 its Yowxa with Connor Clockwize for an hour of Punk rock and fun

At 3am stay tuned for Louisiana Barn Dance from Pacifica.

At 5am you can catch the BBC world Report before we kick of our Saturday morning program with The Celtic Café at 6am followed by Café Italia from 7-8.
