In New Haven at Café Nine on Wednesday the bill has Dr. Caerwaul’s Cadre of Clairvoyant Claptraps, Laundry Day, Lunch Duchess, and Kendra Dawsey. On Thursday there’s a Record Release Show with The Sea The Sea, appearing with Josiah Johnson and Planes on Paper. Friday’s Happy Hour features Sean Conlon, and the late show’s got Javier & Los DishDogs, The Lost Weekend, and more. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with the George Baker Band, followed by the late show with Miriam & Nobody’s Babies and Gotham Rockets . The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown brings you Chi Balance class on Wednesday. It’s International Make Music Day on Thursday, and you’re invited to celebrate with Bob Gotta and friends from noon to 5 pm. In the evening, there’s a Gong and Sound Meditation. The BadSlax Jazz Quartet takes the stage Friday night. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and the Sharp 5 Jazz Ensemble performs Saturday night. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, The Community Blues Jam happens every Wednesday, and on Thursday it’s Liviu’s Invitational. It’s the award-winning West Hartford teen band Gravitonik on Friday, and on Saturday they celebrate the 19th annual Black-Eyed & Bluesfest starting at 3 pm in Bushnell Park. http://www.blackeyedsallys.com/
The Greater Hartford Arts Council sponsors Events this week including Paint a Poem, a poetry Open Mic, and Impressions Printmaking. Friday at the College Street Music Hall, Manic Presents offers a triple bill featuring The Neighbourhood, HEALTH, and Field Medic. On Saturday, the Hamden Academy of Dance & Music presents its 16th Annual Recital: Birth of a Nation. The Russell Library in Middletown sponsors Blood Pressure Monitoring in conjunction with the YMCA on Wednesday at 1:30 pm. It’s Scrabble Wednesday at 2 pm. The Y also brings you Nutritional Education Wednesday afternoon. They celebrate Make Music Day on Thursday with a variety of activities, culminating in an evening event, Clara’s Journey: Why Our Piano Goes to the Woods. There’s a Microsoft Word workshop Friday morning, and Crafts for Adults at 11 am. They offer Yoga in the Hubbard Room and a Medical Massage on Saturday. At the Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in Middletown, they host investigative journalists Jeff Benedict & Armen Keteyian Wednesday with their biography, “Tiger Woods.” They host the Connecticut Tap Collaborative on Thursday morning to celebrate Make Music Day, and songwriter Cash Lane Slim performs Americana and more in the evening. At Infinity Hall in Hartford it’s Jazzy Time on Wednesday with the Sez Zion Jazz Band. On Friday, XEB performs the best of Third Eye Blind with Stocklyn. It’s roots rock and restless mountain bluegrass on Saturday with the Adam Ezra Group. Infinity Hall Norfolk features Quinn Sullivan - Young blues guitar master, Thursday night. Its classic Rock with the Outlaws Friday night at Infinity Hall Norfolk. Saturday, at Infinity Norfolk it's Robert Earl Keen for a night of Folk, Country, Rock, & Bluegrass. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “The Gospel According to André,” a fashion documentary about André Leon Tally, and “The Desert Bride,” a South American romance. Also continuing is “Final Portrait,” a story about the friendship between a writer and an artist. Opening Friday are “Summer 1993,” a Spanish film about grief and memory, and “The Most Unknown,” a documentary about science and discovery. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run of “A Quiet Place,” a horror film about silence, through Thursday.
