Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on
88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica,
as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends
our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form
programming.
I'm Leith Johnson, host of The Light Fandango, heard every
1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday of the month at 4 pm, where you'll hear uncommon songs
of the 1960s and 70s from across the musical genres. I’ll be on this Sunday,
and I hope you'll tune in.

The
Buttonwood Tree in Middletown holds an Anything Goes Open Mic tonight, hosted
by the Ashley Hamel. The Last Rhino and Taking Back Autumn take the stage on
Friday, and The Aligned with Source Workshop takes place Saturday morning. On

In New
Haven, at Café Nine, Manic Mondays headlines Thunder Jackson, coming your way
with Daniprobably and Private Language. On Tuesday you can catch David Gans and
Robert Glassman. On Wednesday, it’s an Abbey Road 50th anniversary
tribute with Matt Demello & The Significant Looks, Tate & Silas, and Mickey
Burr, and on Thursday they bring you Chris Trapper and Canyon. Friday’s Happy
Hour features Lynn Malavolti, with Wess Meets West, Ports of Spain, and Live
Well that evening. Gary Grippo is featured at Saturday’s Jazz Jam session and that
night it’s the Rock This Town Christmas Extravaganza. The Sunday Buzz Matinée features
Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez, and the evening show headlines the George

Up in Hartford,
the Connecticut Historical Society offers “1950s in Vogue: The Jessica Daves
Years,” on Tuesday. The City of Hartford Holiday Bazaar in City Hall runs
Wednesday through Friday. Author Ethan Rutherford speaks at the Mark Twain
House and Museum on Wednesday. Holiday jazz with the Alvin Carter Project is at
The Tavern at Keney Park and the Sea Tea Comedy Theater offers “An Improvised
Christmas Carol” on Thursday. The Connecticut Science Center opens Polar Pajama
Party on Friday. Hartford City Santa with Soul is at Kamora’s Cultural Corner, the
Polish National Home of Hartford offers a traditional Wigilia celebration, and
the Red Rock Tavern has Sensual Salsa Saturday, all on Saturday. Hanging Hills
Brewing Company has Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz on Sunday. Winterfest Hartford at
Bushnell Park continues, where you can skate for free seven days a week, or

Black-Eyed Sally’s in Hartford, Jazz Mondays has a Donald Byrd birthday
celebration featuring Haneef N. Nelson and more. Michael Palin’s Other
Orchestra brings you jazz, R&B, soul classics, and more on Tuesday. The
Wednesday Community Blues Jam is with Mark Nomad. On Thursday, there’s Hip Hop
for the Homeless. “The Busted Nut – A Naughty Nutcracker” runs Friday through

Stubborn Beauty Brewing. The Friends book sale opens Friday morning, and in the
afternoon, there’s a Census 2020 employment information session. On Saturday,

Middletown Arts & Culture Office reminds you that the Wesleyan Potters 64th annual
Exhibit and Sale continues, with live music on Friday nights. A proportion of

Playhouse Youth Theater offers a writing plays class on Thursday, and kids 8
and over can take a baking class on Friday at Keigwin Middle School. Through

Hartford’s
Real Art Ways continues three films through Thursday, including “Parasite,” a
pitch-black modern Korean fairytale, “Recorder: The Marion Stokes Project,”
about a woman who archived everything that was said and shown on television for
decades, and “Varda by Agnes,” an autobiographical documentary. Check the

Trinity
College’s Cinestudio has one showing of “Adam,” about a straight high school
student who moves in with his lesbian sister, on Thursday. On Friday and
Staurday, they present “Joker,” about a failed stand-up comedian who inspires a
violent countercultural revolution in a decaying Gotham City. On Sunday, they
open “63 Up,” the next installment in the every-seven-years “Up” documentary series.
Their Sunday matinée is a performance of “The Nutcracker” by the Bolshoi

Right after the jive, it’s Afternoon Jazz with Charles Henry.
From classic bop to relevant new releases.
From 6-6:30pm Radical Radiowaves with DJ Oracle chronicles
the actions of the left locally and across the country.
From 6:30-8 pm, 75% Folk with Michael Benson offers a mix of
contemporary folk, blues, jazz and acoustic music, along with occasional live
interviews.
At 8 until 9:30 pm, Chip Austin is in the air chair for
Unfocused Folk. Americana music from Nashville and around the world including
folk, acoustic country and roots-rock from both emerging and veteran artists.
From 9:30 to 11 pm, The Jack Sullivan Show brings you music
from the 1950s & 1960's as well as live requests, TV trivia, and lot of
fun.
The oldies continue from 11-12:30 am, with Hits of the 60s
and 70s with Jimmy Z playing Billboard Hot 100 hits. Win a WESU beverage mug on

At 12:30 until 1:30 am it’s Influenza with DJ Jamsterdam and
DJ Celiac. Dig into the origins, relationships, and influences of contemporary
artists to expose how they found their direction.
From 1:30-2:30am The Beatles: A Week in the Life with DJ
McKenzie tells the story of The Beatles, their contemporaries, and the artists
and songs that inspired them.
From 2:30-3:00am, Spoiler Alert Radio provides a
retrospective look at independent artists in filmmaking from across the globe.
From 3-4 am, stay tuned for a rebroadcast of the day’s
noontime episode of Democracy Now! from Pacifica.
Finally, rounding out the night from 4-5 am is the BBC World
Report with international news coverage and then we kick off each weekday at
5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
