Fri, 12/6 Jive

Good evening, it's Friday, Dec. 6th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

At The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown this evening,the Story City Troupe takes the stage  and The Aligned with Source Workshop takes place tomorrow morning. Tomorrow afternoon there’s an Artist’s Reception for the new mixed-media exhibition by Jenavieve Hawks, “Art of Paradise,” and in the evening you can catch jazz with Secondary Messengers. There are two performances of Dylan Thomas’ “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” on Sunday, featuring Peter Loffredo.  www.buttonwood.org

Tomorrow at the Canoe Club there is a special holiday concert to collect toys and coat fro children. Featuring the music of Cherry Sparks, Time of Day and Tier. show starts at 6PM, please bring a toy and or a warm coat to donate. 

In New Haven, at Café Nine, tonight's 5pm happy hour live music set features DW Ditty. Then later tonight brings a Toys for Tots Fundraiser with Joey Wit and the Definition and the Shellye Valauskas Experience. Mike Coppola and Friends are featured at The nine’s Weekly Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam session tomorrow, and then Frank Critelli hosts a Kaaterskill Music & Arts Fundraiser with Greenhouse, Bangcreek Puppies, and Fiction tomorrow night. Up in Hartford,  The Old State House holds their Holiday Shopping Fair through tonight with handcrafted articles from local artisans. The Wadsworth Atheneum 46th annual Festival of Trees & Traditions continues through the season, and the Hartford Gay Men’s Chorus holiday performance of “Making Spirits Bright” takes place today  through Sunday. The Arch Street Tavern hosts Creamery Station and Joon this evening. Tomorrow, the KNOW GOOD Market holds its annual Holiday Bazaar with season offerings, a gift bazaar, and live music. The Artspace Gallery invites you to their Art and Soul Hartford Holiday Market tomorrow with proceeds benefitting ECAD, Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities. The Ishan-Terry House holds Second Sunday Tours this weekend. Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts presents  a guided tour of “Inaction” tomorrow at the Zilkha Gallery. The Wesleyans Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble perform tomorrow evening at Crowell. The Middletown Arts & Culture Office reminds you that the Wesleyan Potters 64th annual Exhibit and Sale continues, with live music tonight. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the work of Gilead Community Services.  Oddfellows Playhouse holds its Circophony Teen Circus Showcase tonight  and it’s Off the Record Indie Night at Conspiracy. Vinnie’s Jump and Jive offers Free Pictures with Santa tomorrow morning, and Community Health is holding free Help Portrait sessions with free hair and makeup on a first come/first served basis. The 34th annual Holiday on Main Street continues with Holiday Story Time at the Main Street Firehouse tomorrow. The Wadsworth Mansion holds its annual Holiday Bazaar on Sunday starting at 10 am. WESU Presents our two remaining 80th anniversary event this week.  Sunday Brings our grand-finale, The Free Form Jubilee, Celebrating 80 years of WESU with over 10 special guest dignitaries and performers paying tribute to WESU’s 8 decade legacy of community service! Performers include, Kate Rushin, Randy and Freddie Moses, Don Minott, Louise Murray, Rani Arbo and her family band as well as Noah Baerman and more!  Suggested admission is a donation to the WESU Fall Pledge drive pf any size and or a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Amazing Grace food Pantry. 


The State House in New Haven brings you worldly vibes with Tariku, Locobeach, and Los Cumpleaños. You can Party Out of Bounds tonight at the State House’s Depeche Mode Tribute Night.
