The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown holds an Anything
Goes Open Mic tonight, hosted by Kyla. On New Year’s Eve they’re offering a
“Fire of Hope” Peace Gathering, featuring Annaita Gandhy. The Story City Troupe
takes the stage on Friday, and The Aligned With Source workshop happens on
Saturday morning, On Saturday afternoon there’s an Art Reception for the new
exhibition, “Wildlife in the Tree,” by Elizabeth Ann McNalley. The Subliminals
are on the roster Saturday night with instrumental jazz and groove. www.buttonwood.org
In New Haven, at Café Nine, Manic Mondays headlines Ports
of Span, Snake Oil, Elison Jackson, and much more. New Year’s Eve features
Robin Banks and more with burlesque, live music, comedy, and drag. You’re
invited to a free event on New Year’s Day with A Tribute to Hank Williams.
Split Silver takes the stage on Thursday, and Friday’s Happy Hour features Lynn
Malavolti. Friday’s late show brings you Left on Scarlet Street, Green Light,
and Rock Bottom. The Saturday Jazz Jam Session features Mike Coppola &
Friends, followed by the late show with ReadyRockDee, Rowdy City, Dutch Shultz,
and much more. The Sunday Buzz matinée headlines The Manchurians and The
Sparkomatics, and they finish out the weekend with Blood Red/Blue, Jonas the

At Black-Eyed Sally’s in Hartford, the Norton Quartet
is featured in their Jazz Mondays series tonight and they celebrate New Year’s
Eve with Sally’s All-Star Band tomorrow. Liviu’s Invitational comes your way on
Thursday, and on Friday you can catch the new “supergroup,” K-Jammz 2020. The
Mighty Soul Drivers bring you the sounds of Memphis and more on Saturday night.

The Russell Library in Middletown hosts the Mystery!
book group tonight at 7 to discuss “Murder for Christmas” by Francis Duncan.
They’re closing early on Tuesday for the holiday, and reopen Thursday morning. Consult

Up in Hartford, the 31st
annual First Night Hartford celebration is on the books with two fireworks
shows in Bushnell Park, multi-cultural activities, live performances, and a

Street Tavern hosts a Shakedown New Year’s Eve Celebration on Tuesday.
Winterfest Hartford at Bushnell Park continues, where you can skate for free

Center Church Hartford holds its 14th annual “Messiah” Community

The State House Cabaret in New
Haven brings the year to a close on Tuesday with a New Year’s Party. On Friday,
the We The Heroes Ball returns for the second year, and on Saturday you can

The Middletown Arts & Culture
Office announces the 20th annual New Year’s Eve Gala at the
Wadsworth Mansion on Tuesday evening. The Mansion also holds a family-friendly

Infinity Hall Norfolk
celebrates the New Year on Tuesday with pop and rock by NRBQ, including the
option for a dinner with the show. At Infinity Hartford, the cast of

Cherry Street Station in Wallingford hosts a New
Year’s Eve party on Tuesday starting at 7 pm. There’s a Birthday Bash for

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track
in Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues runs of “Parasite,”
a modern Korean fairy tale, “Jojo Rabbit,” a WWII satire about a lonely German
boy whose mother is hiding a Jewish girl, and “A Beautiful Day in the
Neighborhood,” starring Tom Hanks as you-know-who. Upcoming openings include
“Honey Boy” and “Burning Cane.” Check the website for details and screening times.

Trinity College’s Cinestudio reopens this Thursday
with “The Two Popes,” a film about secularity and scandal in the modern

Right after the jive, it’s Afternoon Jazz with
Charles Henry. From classic bop to relevant new releases.
From 6-6:30pm Radical Radiowaves with DJ Oracle
chronicles the actions of the left locally and across the country.
From 6:30-8 pm, 75% Folk with Michael Benson
offers a mix of contemporary folk, blues, jazz and acoustic music, along with
occasional live interviews.
At 8 until 9:30 pm, it’s the Rumpus Room with
Lord Lewis. The best in vintage and contemporary funk, soul, jazz, reggae, dub,
afro and Latin dance floor grooves.
From 9:30 to 11 pm, The Jack Sullivan Show
brings you music from the 1950s & 1960's as well as live requests, TV
trivia, and lot of fun.
The oldies continue from 11-12:30 am, with Hits
of the 60s and 70s with Jimmy Z playing Billboard Hot 100 hits. Win a WESU

At 12:30 until 1:30am it’s Cloggin the Noggin
with DJ Oatneel. Every day is national something day. We clog your nog with
facts and know-how about the thing of the day.
From 1:30-2:30am Prominent Profiles with DJ
Elliot takes a look at an historic artist that has had a profound and lasting
influence on popular culture and current artists.
From 2:30-3:00am, Spoiler Alert Radio provides
a retrospective look at independent artists in filmmaking from across the
globe.
From 3-4 am, stay tuned for a rebroadcast of
the day’s noontime episode of Democracy Now! from Pacifica.
Finally, rounding out the night from 4-5 am is
the BBC World Report with international news coverage and then we kick off each
weekday at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
