Here in Middletown, The Buttonwood Tree offers their Anything Goes Open Mic hosted by Gill Katz. Enjoy Gentle Yoga with Theresa on Tuesday, and on Thursday the Middlesex Drum Circle meets. Violinist and singer/songwriter Deni Bonet takes the stage on Friday evening, and on Saturday you can enjoy eclectic offerings from The Mattabesset String Collective, a 5-piece acoustic ensemble. Enjoy the art exhibit of paintings by Janine Janaki through the month.

In New Haven, Café Nine’s Manic Mondays brings you Helen Money, Sea of Bones, and T Wreck. Eric Lindell is the headliner on Tuesday, and on Wednesday you can catch Jeremy & The Harlequins, Soraia, and Dust Hat. Les Bof! And The Zanbonis are on Thursday night’s bill. Friday’s Happy Hour features DW Ditty, followed by a performance by Hal Ketchum. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Billy Cofrances, and the late show’s got Supersuckers and The Redactions. The Sunday Buzz Matinee has got The Suitcase Junket and Belle of the Fall, and they round out the weekend in the evening with a Culture Showcase featuring GQ The Prince, Mellow Sav, and more.  http://www.cafenine.com/  

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, Jazz Mondays tonight features an Orice Jenkins Birthday Bash. Michael Palin’s Orchestra plays jazz, R&B, and soul classics on Tuesday. The Community Blues Jam happens every Wednesday, and on Thursday it’s Liviu’s Jazz Invitational with special guests. It’s straight-up rock ‘n’ roll on Friday with Rock Solid Alibi, and on Saturday you can catch blues guitarist Chris Ruest.   http://www.blackeyedsallys.com/ 

 Manic Presents brings you Aziz Ansari on Tuesday at the College Street Music Hall, with an early show where he’ll work out new material. It’s Sister Hazel and Elizabeth & the Catapult on Thursday at the Wall Street Theater in Norwalk. They’re at the Space Ballroom in Hamden all weekend, starting on Friday with The Shacks and Mandala. On Saturday it’s Bully and Pet Fox, and on Sunday you can catc George Porter Jr. & the Runnin’ Pardners, and Ron Artis II & The Truth. www.manicpresents.com

The Russell Library in Middletown celebrates National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday and invites you to come in and register. They host a Career Workshop in the evening, LinkedIn Tips with Dr. Marcia LaReau. There’s also a Google Docs Workshop, Orgami, and a book discussion with the Classic Mystery group to explore “Death Comes to Pemberly” by P.D. James.  Scrabble is on board Wednesday evening, and the Connecticut Poetry Society meets at 7 pm. Christine Pittsley of the WWI Centennial Commemoration Project will share the story of her trip to France to commemorate the war efforts of the 102nd Infantry Division, including Sgt. Stubby. The Mriachi Band “Los Trovadores de America” perform Thursday night as part of their Immigrant Artist series. Crafts for Adults Friday morning explores Creating New Things from Old. Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts in Middletown invites you to a free performance by Reidemeister Move Tuesday at 8 pm at World Music Hall. There’s an Opening Reception Wednesday at 4:30 at the Zilkha Gallery for multimedia artist Kahlil Robert Irving’s new exhibition, and they offer guided tours on Saturday. Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore in Middletown hosts their bimonthly WES Teen Readers event Wednesday at 6 pm. On Thursday at 6:30 Joyce Maynard presents her new memoir “The Best of Us.” Philosophy Night happens on Saturday at 6 pm with a discussion of relative morality. Artists for World Peace invites you to take part in the Peace Walls exhibition at the Salomon Arts Gallery in Tribeca, NYC, this week. The opening reception is Wednesday at 6 pm, and you can enjoy live painting and music throughout the exhibit. Proceeds benefit the Native Eyes program which brings free eye care to Native Americans. The Arch Street Tavern in Hartford invites you to Boo-Yah’s Free Funk Wednesday with members of West End Blend, Big Mean Sound Machine, and more. The Pratt Street Patio Lunchtime Music Series continues in Hartford at noon on Thursday with a performance by The Magnetic. The One World Market Concert Series brings music to you at the Burr Mall on Prospect Street from 5-7:30 pm on Thursday. Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:

Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the run of “Foreign Body,” a film about the Tunisian revolution, and “Zoo,” about saving a young elephant from a Belfast Zoo slaughter, through Thursday. Also continuing are “Bel Canto,” about a guerrilla takeover of a private party of artists, and “Bisbee ’17,” a documentary about immigrant miners deported from Australia. Opening Friday are “Madeline’s Madeline,” about blurred lines in a physical theater troupe, and “Museo,” about a museum heist in Mexico City. On Sunday they screen “Strangers on the Earth,” about a cellist making the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, and sponsor a post-film reception in conjunction with Concora’s Friends of Bach Committee. Trinity College’s Cinestudio in Hartford continues the run of “RBG, a biopic of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, through Wednesday. On Thursday they open a run of “Sorry to Bother You,” a dystopian sci-fi comedy. It runs through Saturday. The National Theatre Live production of “King Lear” screens on Thursday and Sunday, and they’ll open a run of “Blindspotting” Sunday evening. Check the website for all offerings and times.
