Here's some of what's happening in our area, this week:

Here in Middletown,  The Story City Troupe takes the stage tonight. The Aligned with Source Workshop happens Saturday morning, and in the evening you can enjoy singer/songwriter Kosi, accompanied by Sinan Bakir. There’s a reception Sunday evening at 6 pm for the September art exhibit of paintings by Janine Janaki.

Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts in Middletown welcomes in the new school year with the annual free Bach to School concert at Memorial Chapel on Friday at 6 pm. At the Russell Library in Middletown, The Friends of The Library Book Sale continues on Saturday, and on right now/Friday at 5 pm you’re invited to an After Hours film screening of “Step,” a documentary about step dancing, along with a live performance by Middletown’s Drill Nation drill team. There’s Jazz Up Close Saturday at 1:30 with a performance by tuba and euphonium virtuoso Joseph Daley, accompanied by Noah Baerman.  For more information visit www.russelllibrary.org

In New Haven, tonight at Café Nine, you can catch Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds, along with Slim Cessna’s Auto Club. Saturday evening’s lineup at Café Nine features Paul Belbusti, Chris Bousquet, and Adam Matlock. Up in Hartford Black-Eyed Sally’s tonight, the Restless Mountain Bluegrass Band takes the stage, and you can catch rock, soul, blues and more on Saturday night with Paul Toscano & Special Sauce.

Tonight also brings TGIF Jazz to the Spectra Wired Café in Hartford this Friday starting at 5:30 pm.

The Nick Di Maria Quartet performs at the Hanging Hills Brewing Company in Hartford Friday at 7 pm. The Arch Street Tavern in Hartford brings you the Watkins Glen Band on Friday at 9:30 with the music of the Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, and more. www.hartford.com/events/

Ct Agricultural Fair season continues with the Wapping Fair At the South Windsor Fairgrounds and North Haven,  open now through Sunday.
