Tuesday 12-19-17 Jive

Good evening, it's Tuesday December 19th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

At the Russell Library in Middletown, there’s Origami tonight/Tuesday evening. The Girls Who Code Club holds ongoing meetings every Wednesday at 6 pm. Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem perform their holiday program, Wintersong, on Thursday at 7 pm. There’s Adult Coloring for Stress Reduction on Friday at 11:30 am, and you can Wrap a Gift on Saturday from noon to 2 pm. www.russelllibrary.org

The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown offers Laughter Yoga and a Crystal Bowl Sound Healing in the evening. There’s Kanaha Yoga Wednesday morning. This Friday, it’s crucial roots Reggae Night with Don Minott. You can enjoy A Child’s Christmas in wales performed by Peter Loffredo on Saturday. Change It Up, the art exhibit with the work of Kathleen Curran Smits, runs through the month.

In New Haven at Café Nine, tonight’s bill features Where’s Walden?, King Bongo, and See Me For Me. On Wednesday, it’s a Christmas Nightmare, with Light Upon Blight, Eugene Gallagher, and more. On Thursday they bring you Dangerous Animals, The Right Offs, The Lost Weekend, and Javier Canales. Friday’s Happy Hour set at 5pm,  features Snake Hill Blues and holiday tunes from Hot Flash, followed by the late show, headlining the Of A Winters Night holiday show. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, on Tuesday nights you can see Michael Palin's Other Orchestra get funky with their take on jazz, R&B, and soul classic. The Weekly Community Blues Jam on Wednesday is with Hash Brown, this week. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues “The Florida Project,” about a family in a budget motel near Disney World, and “Big Sonia,” about a Holocaust survivor being evicted from a Kansas City mall. From 5:05-8pm tonight,  it’s Acoustic Blender with Bill Revill offering an eclectic selection of new and older folk, Americana, bluegrass, blues and other music that has a roots influence with a concert listing at 7pm and frequent concert and festival ticket giveaways.

At 8pm, The Voice of the CITY with J-Cherry offers a weekly dose of live and local Connecticut arts and music.

From 9-10pm it’s The Test Patterns Show with Chaim O'Brien-Blumenthal

At 10pm it’s Wes Sports and Beyond with DJ Steven featuring Sports Talk and interviews.
From 11-midnight stay tuned for Dumpster Dive with DJ Smelly featuring punk, art pop and D.I.Y coming from a garbage compactor near you.

At Midnight, Franco is in the house for your favorite dance music from the 70s-80s.

Maximum Rock and Roll Radio takes over with an hour of loud rock and roll from 2-3am

at 3am M-Th this Fall season at WESU,  we'll rebroadcast the day's noon-time run of Democracy Now! from Pacifica

at 4am we bring you BBC's world report before we kick off our Tuesday morning programming with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
