At the Russell Library in
Middletown, tonight at 7pm, Brenda Milkofsky will speak on the history of
shipbuilding in the lower Connecticut River Valley in the 18thand 19th

Senator Len Suzio From 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in Hubbard Room with the senator for

Tonight, The Buttonwood Tree in
Middletown offers a laughter Yoga Session at 7:45. Thursday night, The Middlesex Drum Circle

night, The Buttonwood presents “JAZZ: The Music of Our Lifetime!" Feat.
The Carl Bartlett, Jr. Duet. The evening will feature a Jazz Duo (Saxophone
& Piano) and an audience Q&A.Exciting and innovative artist, native New
Yorker, saxophonist Carl Bartlett, Jr. Annaita Gandhy’s Aligned With
Source Workshop happens on Saturday at 10:30 am. Saturday night Moto Returns to
the buttonwood for an evening of Soca music from Trinidad, traditional roots
reggae and creative interpretations of rock, R&B and soul music with

Café Nine, Watermelon Renaissance plays sludge-blues and jazz-core alongside
Strawberry Cheesesteak’s prog-funk! Wednesday brings Words & Music, a monthly
event full of local & touring musicians, writers, poets, and comedians. Thursday
at Café Nine there’s roundup of regional indie rockers featuring PLUMROSE,
WESTERN ESTATES,
BLACK RIVER UNION,
and MIKE GRIFFIN.
Friday’s 5pm early show at the Nine features Lonesome Billy Calash. Later, Café
Nine’s main Friday night event is the GO KAT GO! BIRTHDAY BASH WITH THE MEMPHIS
MORTICIANS and Slip and Fall for a night of ska-punk, and psychobilly. Saturday’s
weekly Jazz Jam Session at Café Nine is hosted by The George Baker Band this
week. Saturday night at Café Nine, you can catch THE PLIMSOULS RE-SOULED Featuring
members of The Plimsouls, The Woggles and The Forty Fives!. Dust Hat opens that show. The Sunday Buzz Matinee features WASHBOARD SLIM AND THE BLUELIGHTS

Sally’s, on Tuesday nights, Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra works out new
material on stage. Wednesday’s Community Blues Jam will be hosted by Tim

Blues on the Black-eyed Sally’s stage. Saturday night The Neybas bring their

On Friday at 9pm, Wesleyan’s
Center for the Art reemerges from winter break with a free performance of Hidden
Volumes, a performance by Associate Professor of Music Paula Matthusen and
Visiting Scholar in Music Terri Hron explore and remember space through
magnetic, transferred traces. Looping backwards and forwards, distorting time,
they improvise on a series of recordings originally made in a dark Roman
aqueduct. This event happens at Olin Library.
Sunday at 3:00pm at Wesleyan’s Russell House, there’s another free
concert by Singer-songwriter Jess Best who returns to Wesleyan to perform her
original soul and jazz compositions. She will be accompanied by Connor Schultze

Hartford’s Real Art Ways has
extended their run of The Eagle Huntress, through Thursday Jan. 26th. Also
on screen at RAW through Thursday, is Neruda, a lavishly-mounted
reimagining of the Nobel Prize-winning poet’s pursuit into political exile, starring

Trinity College’s Cinestudio in
Hartford is also showing The Eagle Huntress, Through Wednesday. Thursday, Cinestudio
Kicks off a run of (Academy award nominated) Arrival, which stars Amy Adams as
a linguist called in by the govt to help communicate with some unexpected
extraterrestrial visitors. Friday, at
10pm, Cinestudio presents a special screening of Hayao Miyazaki’s classic animated
film, Princess Mononoke, as part of their Friday night moonlight movies series.
Sunday, Cinestudio begins a run of what is being dubbed as “The year’s most
devastating – and necessary – documentary” offering a glimpse into the
dangerous sea crossing of refugees from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
