rundown of what's happening in our area this week:
At the Buttonwood
Tree in Middletown, Thursday night, there are 2 events taking place. Shaking the Tree Gong& Sound
Medidation actually takes place in the Mac650 Gallery
space across Main Street at 7pm. Meanwhile, 3 comedians, headlined by Mark
Normand take the buttonwood tree stage from 8-10pm. Friday night, The
Free At Last Players present a new show: The Evolution of Trump? Can the Free
At Last Players show our new President the light? Annaita Gandhy’s Aligned With
Source Workshop happens on Saturday at 10:30 am. Saturday night at 8 pm, Warren
Byrd’s Byrdspeak Sessions with Special Guest Mixashawn present “Refresh MLK”

At the Russell
Library in Middletown Thursday night, Middletown native author, Kevin Lacz,
talks about his book, The Last Punisher” a true sniper’s account of the battle
of Ramadi. There’s an Art Party at The Library from 4-5pm in the Activity Room.

Tonight, down
in New Haven at Café Nine, features MOJO DOJO, CABIN FEVER, and SOLISTIC.
Thursday at Café Nine there’s a Rockabilly Riot with THE BRAINS and THE DELTA
BOMBERS. Friday’s 5pm early show features Tuesday Saints. Later at 9:30 Café
Nine’s main event features Sidestep Complex, Sky Swamp Orange, Drop Kick
Pop, and Eugene Gallagher. Saturday’s weekly Jazz Jam Session at Café Nine is
hosted by Tony DioGuardi and Friends this week. Saturday night there’s an
event called NHV PLAYS LEONARD COHEN, where a collection of New Haven's musical
talents pay tribute to the late, legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen. The
Sunday Buzz Matinee at 4 brings the Sez Zion Jazz Band for a smooth blend of

This Thursday
Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown will be hosting #GhostlightProject in
Middletown to take a stand for inclusion and compassion. #AllAreWelcome to
participate on January 19th at the Playhouse to celebrate the beauty of our
diverse community. The playhouse asks participants to bring a source of light
to help illuminate downtown Middletown at 5:30pm and #BeALight for
those in need. Plan to arrive a little early to make a sign letting the
world know what you stand for. This is part of an event that is happening at

At Toad’s Place
in New Haven on Thursday, STEPHEN LYNCH’s MY OLD HEART TOUR takes the stage. Friday,
it’s the DEAN WEEN GROUP at Toad’s. The Mike Dillon Band opens that show.
Saturday night, Toad’s presents a 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Doors
album, Riders on the Storm , featuring 10 bands on 2 stages. Check the website

Up in Hartford
at Black-Eyed Sally’s, it’s the Wednesday Community Blues Jam with Mark Nomad,
this week. On Thursdays, Sally’s house band The Po Boys is on deck. This Friday,

rundown of cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:
Hartford’s Real
Art Ways has extended their run of “The Eagle Huntress,” through Jan 26th. Tonight and Tomorrow the conclude their run of “Notes on Blindness,” a virtual reality journey into blindness
based on the real-life experience of theologian John Hull. Friday Real
art Ways begins a run of Neruda, a lavishly-mounted reimagining of the
Nobel Prize-winning poet’s pursuit into political exile, and notably marks his
reunion with No star Gael García Bernal. www.realartways.org.
Through
tonight/Wednesday, Trinity College’s Cinestudio is showing The Forest Through
the Trees, a dark comedy about a young teacher whose idealism transforms into
isolation and terror. Thursday Cinestudio kicks off a run of a 4K restoration
presentation of the 1968 classic, The Lion in Winter, strarring Katha rine
Hepburn and Peter O’Toole!. Sunday there are 2 showings of BOLSHOI
