Here's a rundown of some of what?s happening in our area:
At The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, throughout the month of December, photos by WESU's own dj Bill Revill will be exhibited.
Wednesday brings Evening Oasis, a belly dancing presentation to the Buttonwood.
Thursday, it's Writers Out Loud, the monthly open mic showcase of literary prose.
Friday, it's Marci Geller's Open Book Tour , with a musical trio led by singer-songwriter Geller on piano and vocals.
Saturday afternoon, the Middletown Parks and Recreation Department sponsors an ornament decorating activity. Supplies will be provided.
Saturday evening brings the Electroacoustic Improvisation to the Buttonwood.  Among the performers is a ?percussionist/laptopist? and an ?effects-addicted guitarist.? The music has been called ambient, spacious and cinematic.
On Sunday, and every Sunday, Food Not Bombs shares food at about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood. Anyone is welcome.  You?re invited to help prepare vegetarian food at the First Church at 190 Court Street at
11:30 am.

On Friday, ARTFARM's Circus for a Fragile Planet presents SUBMERGED! at Green Street Arts Center, 51 Green Street in Middletown. SUBMERGED!  is a sixty minute, five person circus about water-related environmental issues. The show starts on the beaches, lawns and bathrooms of central Connecticut and journeys around the globe, exploring human impacts on the hydrosphere through the artistry, imagination and spectacle of circus. Down in New Haven at Toad's Place Wednesday is the weekly EDM Night.
Thursday brings Sessions: A Nite of Reggae Dancehall & Soca, with Mr.
Vegas, Laza Morgan, Shane Fre, Indian, Alandon and Frassman & Dezey Coyotte.
Friday brings Riders on the Storm, a Tribute to the Doors, to Toad's, a celebration of Jim Morrison's birthday, as well as Electric Lady Band, INK, Silvergun, Terra Firma, and Action Potential.
Saturday, it's Marion Meadows's Annual Jazz Christmas Show.

Over at Café Nine in New Haven, tonight brings Joe Flood Soiree Brassens.
Wednesday brings Vandaveer to Café Nine,  w/ Kindred Queer.
Thursday, it's Them Damn Hamiltons. Also performing: Lys Guillorn.
The Friday happy hour brings Sal Paradise to Café Nine, followed by Bill Kirchen?s Honky Tonk Christmas, with The Forgotten Ones, described as ?the twangiest holiday show in town with the Titan of the Telecaster Bill Kirchen.
Then Saturday, it?s the Saturday Afternoon Jazz Jam w/ host Tony Dioguardi and Friends, followed by the North Shore Troubadours; w/ the Clams; MC "Thick Beef" and DJ Dave Coon.
  Sunday, it's the Sunday After Supper Jam with host Kevin St. James and the Legendary Cafe Nine All-Stars.

Up in Hartford at Blackeyed Sally's tongiht is Michael Palin's Other Orchestra, an 18 piece band jamming and working out new material.
Wednesday brings the Blues Jam with Ed Bradley to Sallys. It's one of the longest running open blues jams in New England.
Thursday, it's Eight to the Bar.
And Friday brings the Bob Margolis Blues Band & Friends to Sallys.
Saturday, Jeff Pitchell & Texas Flood.

Now let's take a look at cinema off the beaten track in Central Connecticut:
At Real Art Ways in Hartford tonight through Thursday, screenings of The Flat continue.
Right now, from 4 to 6 is the Thomas Chapin Quartet CD Release.
Wednesday brings Inescapable Rhythms to Real Art Ways, the every-second-Wednesday poetry reading and open mic series.
Friday through Sunday bring screenings of The Waiting Room, a character-driven documentary film that uses extraordinary access to go behind the doors of an American public hospital struggling to care for a community of largely uninsured patients.
Also on Saturday, it's the Best of the New York International Children's Film Festival Kid Flix Mix 2012, a family favorite, suited for Real Art Wayss youngest audiences, ages 4 to 8.

At Cinestudio, Trinity College's cinema tonight through Wednesday, Roman Polanski's Tess, in 4K,  continues. Four-K is the new ultra high-definition digital projection format now in place at Cinestudio.
Thursday through the weekend, also in 4-K, are screenings of Samsara.
Shot over four years in 100 locations in 25 countries, it offers images of our planet that few of us will have the opportunity to see in person. The mesmerizing scenes of unprecedented clarity were created by shooting large format 65mm film, then transferring the film through the highest resolution scanning process available to the new 4K format.
Friday brings a 10:30 p.m. showing of Back to the Future, with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, to Cinestudio.

From 6:30-8:00 is Acoustic Blender with Bill Revill, an eclectic selection of Americana, country with root influence.

From 8-9pm is The Voice of the CITY with J-Cherry, your source for live and local Connecticut arts and music at its best.

From 9-10:30 is Wonderland with DJ Cheshire Cat, who has a song in his heart, a chemical imbalance in his head, and a musical library at his fingers.

From 10:30-11:30 is This Southbound Train, with Mary Barrett, featuring bluegrass, newgrass, and other acoustic sounds.

From 11:30pm-12:30 am is Hardly Strictly Bluegrass with DJ Sleepy Girl, the dulcet tones of bluegrass and folk--just not entirely.

Wednesday, 12:30-1:30am is Radical Roots, with Junkyard Augustine and KC-Gull, presenting lo-fi music with a message.

Wednesday, 1:30-2:30am is The Wayfaring Stranger with Lily Myers, bringing the newest and best in contemporary folk and folk-rock from around the country.
