Good evening, it's Wednesday, March 21st, and this is the Jive at Five, WESU's Daily community calendar and run down of night time programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. Tonight at Cafe Nine in New Haven, the power Jam band Dirty Sanchez, plays the Nine.  Thursday, the BLUE PLATE RADIO JAZZ SERIES presents  The Doug Jones Group.  Friday, CafĂ© Nine presents The Duke Robillard Band w/ Paul Gabriel. Saturday night the Nines Weekly Jazz Jam will be hosted by George Baker and Friends. Saturday night The Wagon takes the Cafe Nine stage.

Here in Middletown, tonight AT THE BUTTONWOOD TREE on Main Street, In honor of Women’s History Month, The Buddhist Faith Fellowship is offering a screening of the film “Blessings” at 7. Blessings is narrated by Richard Gere, filmed in Tibet and tells the story of 3000 nuns living in the remote nomadic region of Nangchen in Eastern Tibet who practice an ancient yogic tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.  Friday night the Buttonwood hosts an Americana Double Bill: with North Carolina’s Humble Tripe and Southern California’s Carolann Ames. Saturday night, The Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul, Singer Betty Harris and the Breaking News Band graces the Buttonwood stage for an 8pm show.  Every Sunday, Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood. Titanium Bar and Lounge in Middletown is now hosting live entertainment 3 nights a week. Tonight, Titanium features local bands. Thursday features live comedy and Friday is Jazz night. This week you can catch Ed Fast and Conga Bop performing Latin Jazz. more can be found online at

Thursday at 7:00 Hartford, The  Emerson Theatre Collaborative presents "Harriet Tubman's Dream," a new one-woman show by CT playwright Lisa Giordano starring Camilla Ross. More  can be found online at

This Saturday at 11am until March 31, The Mac 650 Gallery in Middletown opens their gallery show, THE ART OF SPEED Part II. This is a Hot Rod and Custom car Culture Art show featuring over 80 works from more than 40 artists from around the globe.  There will be a closing Reception on March 31st from noon -5pm. This Saturday at 3pm there is a Family Dance at Vinnie's Jump and Jive on Main Street in Middletown including accessible, energizing, and interactive dances for folks of all ages. This Sunday and occurring on the last Sunday each month at 10 am, Diane & Dave Downs perform their "Nouveau Croon" at Brew Bakers on Main St in Middletown.  The acoustic duet perform popular American music from the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and into the 21st Century.

Tonight, Cinestudio, the Trinity College Cinema in Hartford, begins a run of:  "Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy", the adaptation of the classic spy novel of Cold War deception and betrayal. Sunday Cinestudio begins a run of "Pariah", the coming of age story of an African American lesbian girl in Brooklyn. More can be found at

Real Art Ways in Hartford continues their run of the new animated film "Chico and Rita" through Thursday this week. "Chico" is about two talented musicians who venture from Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas to unite in music and love.  Through Thursday, Real art Ways is also showing "Bullhead", a drama set in the world of illegal bovine steroids and hormones and mafioso meat trade deals.  More can be found online at

Friday at 7:30, The Connecticut Film Festival: presents "Confidence Game" at the Mark Twain house in Hartford. This is a documentary about what lead up to the Bear Stearns financial meltdown.  More can be found online at

The Hartford Jewish Film Festival runs through March 27th and presents: "Tango: A Story with Jews", shown at Mandell JCC, with music and closing night tango party.
