By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent
and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and
community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Here's some of what's
happening in our area this week:
The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown holds an
Anything Goes Open Mic tonight, hosted by Ashley Hamel. The genre-ending band
South for Winter performs on Thursday night, and on Friday you rock with blues
roots with Parker’s Tangent. The Aligned With Source workshop happens Saturday
morning, followed by All the Write Ways: A Workshop for Self-Expression at 1
pm. Erin Earth and Cazz takes the stage Saturday night with New Orleans-style
music. There’s a Reiki Level 2 class on Sunday, and you can view the current
exhibition throughout the month that includes the photography of Ryan Martin

In New Haven, at Café Nine, Blue Note Mondays
features the Konrad Dziemian Trio, and tomorrow you can catch The Mastersons
and Bonnie Whitmore. Couchsleepers, Ports of Spain, and Among the Acres takes
the stage on Wednesday, and on Thursday they bring you Juicebox Batter.
Friday’s Happy Hour features Outlaw Unofficial Non-Sanctioned St. Pat’s Parade
Hooley, and in the evening they’ve got Service Dog, Every Branch, and Pulsr.The
Saturday Jazz Jam Session is led by Gary Grippo, followed by the late show with
Fate and Dose the Well. Sunday morning it’s the St. Patricks Day Parade Party
with The Jovial Crew, and they round out the weekend with the George Lesiw Band

At Black-Eyed Sally’s in Hartford, Michael
Palin’s Orchestra is on hand Tuesday night and Liviu’s Invitational with a
special guest comes your way on Thursday. On Friday, Bobby T’s Allstars play

Up in Hartford at 6 tonight, the
weekly Kizomba Public Dance Session happens at Union Station, and from 8 to 10,
the Hartford Jazz Orchestra will play at Arch Street Tavern. Tomorrow (Tues) at
10 a.m., there’s the spring Greenhouse show at Elizabeth Park, continuing all
week, and at 11:30 there’s a gardening workshop series at the Hartford Public
Library Park branch. At 5:30, there’s an electronics and Digital Fab Meetup,
for anyone interested in electronics, 3D printers, computer programming, the
internet of things, robotics, etc Check the MakerspaceCT website for
details. And at 7, it’s Wellness Night,
focusing on Joyful Collage, in the atrium of the Hartford Public Library
downtown branch. Wednesday, there’s a Knitting for Everyone Workshop from 1 to
2 at the Hartford Public Library Park branch. Thursday, enjoy Brains &
Brews Trivia at City Steam Brewery, starting at 7 . And at 7, Twang Thursdays
presents Honeysuckle at Hog River Brewing Co, 1429 Park St. On Friday, chase
away the Winter Blues with singer/songwriter Kelly English from noon to 1 in the
lobby of City Place 1, 185 Asylum St, and at 5:30, on the third floor of the
Hartford Public Library downtown branch, there will be an opening reception for
Lost in Color, an exhibition of black and white Hartford street photography by
Erik Williams. And from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, the St. Patrick’s Day

At the Wesleyan/RJ Julia Bookstore
in Middletown Tuesday, at 7 p.m., Terence Hawkins discusses his new sci-fi
novel American Neolithic. Inspired by current events, readers enter a world
where America has become a Police State, drones are always watching, and the
Bill of Rights has been tossed aside for new amendments. On Wednesday at 6
p.m., readers in grade 7 and higher are invited to join WESteen Readers for a monthly event featuring food and conversation about books. Also on Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m.,
author Jeanne Zulick Ferruolo visits to discuss her second middle-grade novel A
Galaxy of Sea Stars, about family, loyalty, and the hard choices we face in the
name of friendship. On Thursday at 7 p.m., author Chad C. Betz will discuss
"Late Bloomer: It’s Not Too Late To Succeed!" There will be another
family story time on Saturday at 10:30.

Library, the Twos are Terrific: Group A meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. tomorrow
(Tues) in the activity room. Later, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Job and Career Workshop
meets in the Hubbard Room. Also
tomorrow, at 6:30, the Russell Readers will discuss”Double Birthday” by Willa
Cather from the collection The Best American Short Stories of the Century. On
Wednesday morning at 10, Preschool Power Story Time happens for children ages
3-6 and their caregivers. Siblings welcome! No registration required, but space
is limited to the first 40 who arrive.
Scrabble Wednesday happens at 5 p.m. Also on Wednesday at 5, it’s Slime
Science, for kids in grades 2 to 5. Baby Rhyme Time happens at 10 am on

Thursday, at 6 p.m., Books and Brews meets offsite at Stubborn Beauty Brewing
to discuss Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. Also on Thursday, from 6 to 9
p.m., the library is offering a preview of its Friday-Saturday-Sunday Wicked
Big Book Sale. On Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. you can have your resume

Music Hall in New Haven on Wednesday with Bonnie "Prince" Billy
with Emmett Kelly and Jonathan Richman with Tommy Larkins. They’re at the Space

Hartford’s Real Art Ways is showing “Portrait
of a lady on Fire,” about a forbidden affair between an 18th century
aristocrat and a painter commissioned to paint her portrait, through Thursday.

Trinity College’s Cinestudio has “Mephisto,”
about a struggling actor who wins fame in pre-WWII Berlin playing
Mephistopheles, through Wednesday. On Thursday, they’re showing “And Then We
Danced,” a passionate coming-of-age tale set amidst the conservative confines
of modern Tbilisi, and on Friday and Saturday, they’re showing “Just Mercy,” the
true story of a lawyer who represents two men on Death Row: one innocent, and
one guilty. On Sunday, they open a run of “Clemency,” about a Death Row prison
matron who is cracking under the horrors of her job. Sunday evening, there’s a
