Here's a rundown of some of what’s happening in our area:

Tonight, down at Toad's Place in New Haven, you'll hear Shakedown, featuring The Dead and Beyond and Dizzy Fish.  Saturday night Toad's hosts La Coka Nostra, including members of the House of Pain, Non Phixion, and Special Teams. More can be found online at toadsplace.com

Tonight in New Haven at Cafe Nine,  there will be a local punk rock n' roll showcase featuring The Hulls and Defcon 5. Café Nine’s Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam will be hosted by Tony Dioguardi and Friends. Saturday is the ANTHRAX CLUB REUNION NIGHT: featuring Seizure; Lost Generation; 76% Uncertain; C.I.A.; Zombie Squad; and Skeletal Ambitions. The SUNDAY-AFTER-SUPPER JAM: will be hosted by Kevin St. James & the Legendary Cafe Nine All-Stars with signups at 7 and performances starting at 8. Tonight in Hartford at Blackeyed Sally’s see B. Willie Smith and Saturday the Walter Lewis Blues Trio brings songs from the deep south and the Muddy Waters era in Chicago. More can be found at blackeyedsallys.com

Tonight Shawn Taylor and the Wandering Roots bring their gritty soul stirring vocals & poetic blue collar lyrics to the Buttonwood stage at 8. Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood Tree every Sunday. Tonight Sully's Pub in Hartford hosts Wimbash 2012, The Annual musical gathering organized by Hartford native international musical legend and bassist, Doug Wimbish. This year's Wimbash will feature over 20 artists and bands on two stages featuring Living Colour’s Vernon Reid and Will Calhoun, The School of Rock House Band, Jungle funk, Vinx, Keith Leblanc and many more. Also tonight at Higher Grounds Coffee House at 70 Main Street in East Hampton is their weekly open mic. The show starts at 8PM. Every Saturday night brings local music to Higher Grounds.

In Collinsville at Bridge Street Live!, 41 Bridge St. tonight at 8 you can hear the legendary "Red Hash" songwriter Gary Higgins with String Theorie. Saturday night it's comedy with Steve Hofstetter & The Laff Guru (aka Spanky) at 8 pm. Visit 41bridgestreet.com for their schedule.

Saturday at 4:30pm The Marino Foundation, Inc. presents Foodstock at the Naugatuck Polish American Club for  7 hours of Food, Fun & Music Featuring Jeff Martinson plus Maestro Brett Connors & Friends.  Proceeds will be donated to the Waterbury Arc & Theater Works, Hartford. Also this Saturday the Caribbean-American Multi-Cultural Association of CT presents their first annual Tace Middletown: Trinidad Style Carnival Launching. Festivities will take place from 1 to 9:30 pm by the waterfront at Harbor Park here in Middletown. There will be live performances by the Hartford Steel Symphony, Brooklyn's own Women in Steel dance group, djs, and more. For vending and information call 860-818-0678.

Tis the season for farmers’ markets and here are a few in our area: The Durham Farmers' Market is open every Thursday on the Town Green on Main St, from 3 to 6:30 p.m., through September. The longstanding Middletown Farmers’ market at the South Green is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October. The Middletown North End Farmers Market is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday and is located at the corner of Liberty and Main Streets in Middletown.

Now here’s a quick rundown of cinema off the beaten path here in central CT this week.

Tonight through next Tuesday,Cinestudio, the Trinity College cinema in Hartford, will be presenting the recently released French film, The Well-Digger's Daughter. Show schedules and descriptions can be found online at cinestudio.org

Real Art Ways in Hartford continues viewings of 'The Queen of Versailles', an epic documentary following billionaires Jackie and David and their rags to riches story. Tonight Real Art Ways will begin their run of Chinese Take-Away, an Argentine film about a Chinese man who can't seem to find what he's looking for in Buenos Aires, and a local man who tries to help him on his journey. it’s Free Speech Radio News from The Pacifica Network - An independently produced half hour daily national and international radio news program focusing on peace and social justice issues in the US and around the world. FSRN is collectively run by its workers and reporters.

At 6:30, until 8pm we have the Universal Sound Wave with Sistah Tee - Informing listeners about local and global issues with health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips, featuring a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues.

Next up until 10pm, we take it

Rok-A-Dee - The Voice of Hartford, featuring local artists from Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Spotlighting Caribbean R & B, Soca and international music.

From 10 until Midnight, take in

At 1:30am we go

At 3, to 4am it's the Bassment Beats with DJ Lokash – the Real Hip-Hop is over here.

from 4 to 5am, on a mission to preserve and support the cultural diversity and heritage of all traditional and contemporary folk musics, and to encourage making folk music a part of our everyday lives.

And we bring in the daylight from 5:00 to 6:00am with the

- a daily News roundup from the British Broadcasting Corporation

And staying on the other side of the big pond, from 6:00 to 7:00am it’s
 the Celtic Café
 - Traditional and contemporary music with a Celtic connection.
