monday 4-10-17 Jive

Good evening, it's Monday April 10th. This is the Jive at Five, our daily community calendar and rundown of nighttime programming here on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk radio from NPR and Pacifica, as well as independent and local public affairs sources. Weeknights and weekends our student and community volunteers bring you the best in free-form programming.

Here's a rundown of what's going down in our area this week.

At the Russell Library in Middletown tonight, Backstage at the Ballet will be presenting a program that lets the audience look at what it takes to put on a full ballet -- from costumes to choreography! Tours of Russell Library are ongoing this week, on Monday, April 10, Tuesday, April 11, and Thursday, April 13, Starting in the Lobby. the Film Screening this week is Haunted Honeymoon on Tuesday, April 11, in the Hubbard Room  www.russelllibrary.org

Tonight, the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown offers Moments of Gratitude and a weekly open mic. Tuesday brings a weekly afternoon yoga session to the Buttonwood at 1 pm. Comedian Joe List performs on Thursday the 13th, and Father-Son Jazz Duo Khalif and (the legendary) Charles Neville take the Buttonwood Tree Stage, Friday night. Saturday at Noon brings the weekly Aligned With Source workshop: Hosted by Annaita Gandhy. Acoustic folk pop with the Kennedys make for the main event Saturday night. Buttonwood ends the week with a piano concert with Ann Sweeten on Sunday.

Tonight in New Haven at Café Nine, catch musical guests Jon Dee Graham, Bonnie Whitmore, and Michael Hunton at 8 PM. Tomorrow/Tuesday is the 9th Street Stompers, and Wednesday brings the Rumjacks tp Café Nine. Thursday night, cafe nine hosts Kinky Friedman's RESURRECTED TOUR. Friday's Weekly Wind Down Happy Hour features LONESOME BILLY CALASH at 5 PM. Friday night’s main event at Café Nine features Ransom Pier, Pat Stone & The Dirty Boots, plus Drew Angus.. Saturday's weekly afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Tony Dioguardi & Friends. Later saturday night, JERKAGRAM shares a bill with LANDING OURSELVES, ALONE, and STEFAN CHRISTENSEN & FRIENDS. "The Sunday Buzz" Matinee at Café Nine from Cygnus Radio Presents EDDIE SEVILLE this week. Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, tonight’s Jazz Monday’s session features a special secret guest artist this week. Every Tuesday night at Sally's, Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra gets funky as they jam and work out new material. Thursday nights Sally’s house band, The Po Boys, feature special guests. Friday brings EGGY W/ COUSIN EARTH to Black Eyed Sally’s.  Saturday  the DAN BROTHER BAND FROM NYC plays blues, funk and soul. Sunday features an Easter Jazz Brunch featuring an a la carte menu, live entertainment, Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. www.blackeyedsallys.com

At Toad’s Place in New Haven tonight, you can catch a night of smooth Jazz with ROHN LAWRENCE & FRIENDS on the LILLY PAD. Thursday brings a night of conscious hip hop with TALIB KWELI, Styles P, Logic, and Doobieous Intentions w/Gambit & Savo. Friday brings YALE’s ANTE-FLING 2017 feat. HOP ALONg PRESENTED BY WYBC, with musical guests Varsity, Forth Wanderers and others.

Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts presents the second week of the Senior Thesis Exhibition Receptions, opening on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 4:00pm.   WesFest Concert I: Riffs, Rhythms, and Remembrance--A Choral and Orchestral Celebration goes happens Wednesday, at Crowell Concert Hall. Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues the run of You're Killing me Susana and Frantz this week. Friday is “Deconstructing Sgt.
