on 88.1 FM WESU Middletown. By day, WESU offers talk programs featuring NPR,
Pacifica, and independent and local public affairs broadcasts. Weeknights and

Now, here's a rundown of what's happening in our area this
week:
On Tuesday evenings, here in Middletown at Harbor Park, The
Summer Sounds Weekly Concert Series overlooking the CT River features the
Nekita Waller Band with Motown pop & soul favorites. Concerts are free and

At the Russell Library in Middletown, tonight, they’ve got
Oragami at 6:30, and the ongoing Veterans Writing Group meets on Thursday at

Tonight, down in New Haven at Café Nine Teake & Mooncha
present Open Mic Night. Tomorrow, Wednesday, you can catch the Comedy Open Mic
hosted by Dan Rice. On Thursday, Fernando Pinto Presents The Spiritual Bat,
November Party, and more. Friday’s early set at 5 features Victor Roland. Later
Friday night, Go Kat Go presents Rockaway Bitch, and Blaire Alise & the
Bombshells. Saturday’s Jazz Jam Session is with Mike Coppola and Friends, and
on Saturday you can catch The New Dirty and Ian Biggs. Cygnus Radio & Cafe
9 present "The Sunday Buzz" Matinee with the Greg Sherrod Band,
followed by Christina Harris and Ponybird later to finish out your

At Toad’s Place in New Haven, tonight, Riff Raff headlines
the Peach Panther Tour, appearing with Trill Sammy & Dice Soho, and
Dollabill Gates. On Friday you can catch Carcass, Crowbar, Ghoul, and Night

Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s on Tuesday nights,
Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra works out new material. On Wednesday it’s the
Community Blues Jam, hosted by Ed Bradley this week. On Thursday they continue
the West Hartford Jazz Jam lead by James Antonucci. Friday’s headliner, up from
New Orleans, is Jason Ricci & The Bad Kind, with art blues, crack rock funk,
and more. On Saturday, you can hear blues with Glastonbury’s Jake Kulak &

On Thursday at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, there’s an
Acoustic Open Mic with Bob Gotta. Friday night they bring you the Norm
Gage/Kenny Reed Quintet, with jazz trumpet and more. On Saturday morning
Annaita Ghandy’s Aligned with Source workshop happens at Middletown’s Harbor
Park at 10:30 am, with the theme of “Willingness.” Saturday night, it’s
Story City, a troupe of storytellers who – using techniques from NPR’s The Moth
series – will entertain you with this week’s theme, “Heat.” On Sunday,
enjoy comedy with the Great Make Believe Society Improv Show. Full

There’s free music at noon Wednesdays through September 14th,
at Constitution Plaza in Hartford, as
part of the Lunchtime “Audio Feed.” Music Series. This week’s featured

Manic Productions brings you Big Thief, Cantina, and Adult
Mom at Bar in New Haven tomorrow, Wednesday eve. This Sunday, its Boris

Also tomorrow, Wednesday, is the Elizabeth Park Rose Garden
Summer Concert Series in Hartford, which features Beatles Forever, this

The Green Street Teaching and Learning Center in Middletown
hosts an opening reception this Thursday at 5 pm for artist Beth Klingher’s
exhibit “Art in Pieces.” Her work explores the connections between art

Cherry Street Station in Wallingford presents City of Iron,
Goblet, Cazador, Godeater, and Subutai on Friday. On Saturday, they’ve

The fifth annual Middletown Music Festival produced by
WESU’s J Cherry happens this weekend at Middlesex Community College.
Enjoy music, craft beers, local vendors, hula hoops and more starting at 6 pm
Friday, From 10 am to 10 pm on Saturday, and Sunday from 10 am to 7:30

WESU is a proud supporter of the 11th Annual Grace
Taste of The Caribbean & Jerk Festival, a FREE family celebration of
Caribbean Culture at Hartford’s Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, This years
event happens this Saturday, August 6,2016, from 1-11:00 pm. (Rain Date- Sunday
August 7, 2016). Music Headliners this year are: Grammy Nominated reggae
singer, Luciano from Jamaica; Barbadian Saxophonist Elan Trotman, Saga
Dee from Trinidad, Gospel sensation J. CEE , Los Calientes and more....
The event also features an annual Carnival Parade, an Open
Mic at the Children's village & lots of Caribbean food. For

Connecticut’s Farmers' Markets are in full gear now. Here in
Middletown you can you can support local farmers and get nutritious home-grown
goods on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the long running market at the South Green
on Old Church Street from 8am-1pm. On Fridays, The Middletown North End
farmers market happens on Main Street outside Its Only Natural Market. For

Now here's a rundown of cinema off the beaten track in
Central Connecticut:
Through Thursday, Hartford’s Real Art Ways continues their
run of “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” a combination road comedy/coming-of-age
film about a foster child being raised in the New Zealand countryside. Also
continuing is “The Innocents,” a French film about a physician called to handle
a surprising crisis in a Benedictine convent after World War II. On Friday they
open “The Kind Words,” an Israeli comedy following Jewish siblings on a road
trip to learn about their real father. Also opening is “Men Go To Battle,” a
Civil War story about two Kenturky brothers whose relationship splinters when
the war approaches. Both run through the weekend. www.realartways.org
Through Thursday, Trinity College’s Cinestudio is showing
“Love & Friendship,” a romantic comedy about a manipulative widow, based on
an unfinished novella by Jane Austen. On Friday they open a Wim Wenders’
series, starting with “Wings of Desire” on Friday, “Until the End of the World”
on Saturday, and “Buena Vista Social Club” on Sunday. There’s also a
Sunday matinee screening in their Globe On Screen series of Shakespeare’s

Now here's what's on the air tonight on WESU:
Right after the Jive, Stay tuned for three hours
of Acoustic Blender with Bill Revill, for an eclectic selection of
new and older folk, Americana, bluegrass, blues and other music that has a
roots influence with a concert listing at 7pm and frequent concert and festival
ticket giveaways.
From 8-9pm The Voice of the CITY with J-Cherry is a weekly
show featuring live and local Connecticut arts and music.
From 9-10:30pm its time for Radio Obscura, whose hosts claim
your eyes won’t believe what you hear on their show.
At 10:30 it’s an hour of underground hip hop with DJ
Malik-1Fam (sounds like Muh-leek – One – Fam) on Underdog’s Edge.
At 11:30 Upfront Soul with Sanguine Fromage
offers Funk, soul, and jazz, plus sprinklings of R&B, gospel, and
hip-hop for two hours until.
RootsWorld Radio with Cliff Furnald takes you on a tour
across borders and genres, introducing you to music from far flung places and
sometimes from right in your own backyard, from 1:30-2:30am.
At 2:30 stay tuned for All Mixed Up with Peter Bochan from
Pacifica Presenting a collage of great music and current events soundbites.
BBC World report comes your way at 4 am and we begin
tomorrow’s broadcast day with Morning Edition from NPR at 5am.
