Tonight, down in New Haven, Cafe Nine presents Comedy Open Mic hosted by Dan Rice. Thursday at Café Nine brings the New Haven Record Release Show for Todd Lewis Kramer’s "Fairground" release. Matt Sucich opens the show. Café Nine’s early 5pm set on Friday, features Buzz Gordo’s Ski lounge. Later on Friday night, Cafe Nine presents JOSÉ OYOLA & THE ASTRONAUTS, Fernandito Ferrer, Darian Cunning, and Steve Rodgers. Café Nine’s Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Mike Coppola & Friends this week and it begins at 4:30pm. Saturday evening, Café Nine presents a night of Blues with the Eliza Nealz and the Narcotics and Rocky Lawrence. “The Sunday Buzz“ Matinee presents by Cygnus Radio & Cafe 9 features THE DEL RIOS, Tsunami of Sound, Ninth Wave, this week. Sunday evening, Café Nine Stage features a night afrobeat, calypso and reggae fusion from NIKHIL P. YERAWADEKAR & LOW MENTALITY (FEATURING MEMBERS OF ANTIBALAS). Up in Hartford Friday night, Black Eyed Sally’s presents ELIZA NEALS & THE NARCOTICS for a night of Detroit soul, and blues rock. Saturday night, brings The Jay Willies Blues Band. www.blackeyedsallys.com
On the first Wednesday of every month, Middletown's inaugural Music Ambassador, Old Lonesome Dave Downs hosts a Jack n' Jill Open Mic Nights at The Mezzo Grille on Court Street in Middletown. Everyone's invited to Mezzo's to sing, play, dance, joke, recite, rant, chant, or just sit and listen and there’s A drum kit in on site. Participants can compete for a chance to perform at this September's Jack n' Jill Music Festival by entering The Jack n' Jill Songwriting Contest. Performances at tonight's open mic are limited to 10 to 15 minutes and will start at 8 pm, signups will begin at 7:30 pm. 860.346.6000

This week brings more loud music to Cherry Street Station in Wallingford. Tonight, The Green Invaders take the stage for a night of heavy metal. Friday night’s bill features Slip and Fall for a night of Ska, Punk & Reggae. Saturday afternoon at 1pm it’s a metal matinee at Cherry Street Station with Cyperna for a 1pm show. Also here in Middletown, at the Buttonwood Tree, Thursday night, Bob Gotta hosts a long running acoustic open mic. Friday night The Grays perform their electric gypsy tribal jazz. Saturday morning, The Buttonwood offers a morning class of Transitional Tai Chi at 9:15 am followed by the Aligned with Source meditation at 10:30am. At 4pm this Saturday at The Buttonwood Tree, The International Beat Poetry Festival presents an open mic and features poets: Yvon Cormier and Elizabeth Vickery Haight with live music accompaniment by Podunk Throwbacks. Saturday evening, Jazz guitarist and composer Sinan Bakir returns to the Buttonwood Tree with his new trio featuring George Mastrogiannis on drums and Silvain Castellano on bass. Through tomorrow, Hartford’s Real Art Ways is showing Our Last Tango, which tells the life and love story of Argentina’s most famous tango dancers Maria Nieves Rego and Juan Carlos Copes. Before the 7:30 PM film showing, Tomorrow, The Hartford Argentine Tango Society will be on hand to get visitors into the swing of it, Starting at 5:30 PM.
