Tonight, down in New Haven, Cafe Nine presents a night of fuzzed out, desert dusted rock n roll with Shantih Shantih, a four-piece from Atlanta, Georgia. The Mountain Movers open that show. Tomorrow (Wednesday), there’s a Comedy Open Mic hosted by Dan Rice. Thursday at Café Nine brings the New Haven Record Release Show for Todd Lewis Kramer’s "Fairground" release.  Matt Sucich opens the show.  Café Nine’s early 5pm set on Friday, features Buzz Gordo’s Ski lounge. Later on Friday night, Cafe Nine presents JOSÉ OYOLA & THE ASTRONAUTS, Fernandito Ferrer, Darian Cunning, and Steve Rodgers. Café Nine’s Saturday afternoon Jazz Jam Session is with Mike Coppola & Friends  this week and it begins at 4:30pm. Saturday evening, Café Nine presents a night of Blues with the Eliza Nealz and the Narcotics and Rocky Lawrence.  “The Sunday Buzz“ Matinee presents by Cygnus Radio & Cafe 9 features THE DEL RIOS, Tsunami of Sound, Ninth Wave, this week.  Sunday evening, Café Nine Stage features a night afrobeat, calypso and reggae fusion from NIKHIL P. YERAWADEKAR & LOW MENTALITY (FEATURING MEMBERS OF ANTIBALAS). The new trio, D.Y.C, featuring members of Deep Banana Blackout and  Jen Durkin & The Business open that show www.cafenine.com


Up in Hartford at Black-Eyed Sally’s, tonight, on Tuesday evenings, Michael Palin’s Other Orchestra works out new material on the Sally’s stage. Friday night Black Eyed Sally’s presents ELIZA NEALS & THE NARCOTICS for a night of Detroit soul, and blues rock. Saturday night, brings The Jay Willies Blues Band.  www.blackeyedsallys.com


On the first Wednesday of every month, Middletown's inaugural Music Ambassador, Old Lonesome Dave Downs hosts a Jack n' Jill Open Mic Nights at The Mezzo Grille on Court Street in Middletown. Everyone's invited to Mezzo's to sing, play, dance, joke, recite, rant, chant, or just sit and listen and there’s A drum kit in on site. Participants can compete for a chance to perform at this September's Jack n' Jill Music Festival by entering The Jack n' Jill Songwriting Contest. Performances at tomorrow's (Wednesday's) open mic are limited to 10 to 15 minutes and will start at 8 pm, signups will begin at 7:30 pm. 860.346.6000

This week brings more loud music to Cherry Street Station in Wallingford. Wednesday night The Green Invaders take the stage for a night of heavy metal.   Friday night’s bill features Slip and Fall for a night of Ska, Punk & Reggae. Also here in Middletown, at the Buttonwood Tree, Thursday night, Bob Gotta hosts a long running acoustic open mic.  Friday night The Grays perform their electric gypsy tribal jazz.  Saturday morning, The Buttonwood offers a morning class of Transitional Tai Chi at 9:15 am followed by the Aligned with Source meditation at 10:30am. At 4pm this Saturday at The Buttonwood Tree, The International Beat Poetry Festival presents an open mic and features poets: Yvon Cormier and Elizabeth Vickery Haight with live music accompaniment by Podunk Throwbacks. Saturday evening, Jazz guitarist and composer Sinan Bakir returns to the Buttonwood Tree with his new trio featuring George Mastrogiannis on drums and Silvain Castellano on bass.  Through Thursday, Hartford’s Real Art Ways is showing Our Last Tango, which  tells the life and love story of Argentina’s most famous tango dancers Maria Nieves Rego and Juan Carlos Copes. Tomorrow's episode: a yummy tour through The Vatican Cookbook with its co-author Thomas Kelly. The book is the brainchild of the Vatican Swiss Guard and not only contains favorite recipes of recent popes, but luscious photos of the food and other Vatican works of art. From 9:30-10:30pm, Cruiser’s Radio with Jack Sullivan offers a a blend of Rock & Roll from the 1950 - 1960s that provides the music and the news of that era.

 

At 10:30 stay tuned for an hour of “Free Talk” with Al Robinson & Deni Young, this is a commentary talk show addressing news, politics, entertainment and weather.

 

From Midnight to 3am all summer, Franco’s Studio 54 with Francaccio di Roma provides 3 hours of  Disco and dance music of the 70’s and 80’s.

 

We switch it up big time at 3am when Maximum Rock & Roll Radio comes alive to offer the best DIY punk, garage, and hardcore Rock and Roll.

The Middletown Symphonic Band will open its 2016 outdoor concert series with a program of patriotic music as part of the Riverfront Recapture Concert Series in the amphitheater at Great River Park in East Hartford, beginning at 7 PM on Saturday, (Rain Date: Sunday, May 29). The City of Middletown and the Middletown Council of Veterans will be sponsoring the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30, 2016. The theme this year is "Honoring Gulf War Veterans." The parade will start after the Middletown Vietnam War Vets Chapter conducts their annual 9am wreath-laying ceremony at on The Washington Street Veteran's Green Memorial.
The Main Street parade will start around 10:30 am at Spring and Main Street, move south on Main Street to Union Green at Pleasant and Main Street. There will be a ceremony on Union Green after the parade.

Tonight, Hartford’s Real Art Ways begins runs of two films. The Middletown Symphonic Band will open its 2016 outdoor concert series with a program of patriotic music as part of the Riverfront Recapture Concert Series. The City of Middletown and the Middletown Council of Veterans will be sponsoring the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30, 2016. The theme this year is "Honoring Gulf War Veterans."

The parade will start after the Middletown Vietnam War Vets Chapter conducts their annual 9am wreath-laying ceremony at on The Washington Street Veteran's Green Memorial.

The Main Street parade will start around 10:30 am at Spring and Main Street, move south on Main Street to Union Green at Pleasant and Main Street. There will be a ceremony on Union Green after the parade.

Hartford’s Real Art Ways, is now showing Sonic Sea, a film about protecting life in our waters from the destructive effects of oceanic noise pollution. The Middletown Symphonic Band will open its 2016 outdoor concert series with a program of patriotic music as part of the Riverfront Recapture Concert Series. The concert will be held in the amphitheater at Great River Park, in East Hartford, beginning at 7 PM on Saturday, (Rain Date: Sunday, May 29). Friday night’s bill features punk , death, and thrash metal from 4 acts ThanOnauT,  Shallow Ground ,  Minotaur's Redemption, and  RÖÄRGH. Hartford’s Real Art Ways, is now showing Sonic Sea, a film about protecting life in our waters from the destructive effects of oceanic noise pollution. Representatives from the Cetacean Society International will be on hand before and after each screening to educate, advocate and answer questions about the marine environment!  Following the 6 PM film screening tonight (Tuesday), there will be a talk with Cynde McInnis the Director of Cetacean Society International.    Friday, Real Art Ways begins a run of Our Last Tango, which  tells the life and love story of Argentina’s most famous tango dancers Maria Nieves Rego and Juan Carlos Copes, who met as teenagers and danced together for nearly fifty years until a painful separation tore them apart.   www.realartways.org 

Tonight in Hartford, Trinity College’s Cinestudio, ends their run of FRANCOFONIA, directed by master Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov exploring the relationship between art, culture, and 20th century European history, set in occupied Paris circa 1940.
